I am taking my English final tomorrow and on the test (which will be a full AP English lit test) there will be a comparing poems prompt. How do I approach this type of question? Can you provide a link to a sample question and answer for this type of prompt? Thanks.

well, first id check here: http://collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/english_lit/samp.html?englit

just some old questions and the way they scored them.
Just look at the poems separately...specifically literary devices, structure, speakers, tone, audience, etc. Then, point out the differences and similarities between the two and which one better portrays what the author is looking to say. If there is anything about the author you know, the time period, the setting, point it out.

You are not necessarily trying to dissect the poem line by line, but looking how effective it is towards its audience (you!) as a whole.

Hope that helps and good luck.
