You can always go test optional if you can’t raise the score up. Also some people test better on the ACT. You might want to take a practice ACT to see if that test is more suited to your strengths. My son took both and his ACT was at American’s 75% of admitted students but his SAT was well over the 75% of admitted students. American does not use standardized test as one of their top criteria for admittance - It’s GPA, rigor of coursework, and level of interest. Scores are “considered” but not a high priority. You have rigor and level of interest nailed. What is your unweighted GPA? Your EC’s look great. ED 1 had an 89% acceptance rate for the incoming freshman, so I think going ED is the right call if you know this is your school. My son will also apply ED1.

My unweighted GPA is 3.91, I’ve only had two B’s throughout my three years of high school. Thank you so much for your advice I will def try the ACT!

That’s an excellent unweighted GPA. On American’s website it says their middle 50% is 3.44—3.97. However, they allow students whose schools grade on a 5 point scale to submit their weighted GPA’s, so I think that contributes to the high GPA. US News & World Report says their GPA average is 3.7 and college data says it’s 3.66. Remember if you can’t get your test scores up, it’s ok. They only “consider” the test scores. Much more emphasis is put on other factors. From their webpage “Please note that applying to American University without submitting your standardized test scores will not affect your consideration for merit awards or admission to the AU Honors Program.”
