Please please help me i am in tears!!!!

^i’m sure you are D: I’m not even close to calc 1 yet :X but I’m an econ major and will have to take calc before I transfer…

get good at trig. All I’m saying.

my HS trig teacher sucked some gnarly balls and I kinda slept in his class too.

also remember that integrals are derivatives in reverse. When you’re being taught differentiation, try doing it in reverse too for the hell of it.

I hope everything works out for you!

I got screwed in trig as well. My teacher didn’t do ****. I pretty much gave up 2nd semester and got a D -.-

Calc 1,2,3 are easy. It wasn’t until I took Calculus 3 online that I found online classes to be easier than on-campus classes.

I remember not too long ago, a post on CC regarding an Econ major who wanted to change his/her major to mathematics after taking Calc 1 and enjoying it so much. LOL @ that. So naive and gullible?

LOL @ double-posting

@edmfanatiq

I was fortunate to get a C in Calc 3, I’m an English major, but I still took the class because I got advanced standing credits for Calc 1 and 2. I had no idea I already fulfilled the maths requirement for the UCs I was naive and didn’t go see a counselor before starting CC and tried to everything myself.

So I thought I had to take a maths course in CC before I transfer but couldn’t take anything lower than calc 3 because I had done them in high school.

That C could have easily been a D or and F and would’ve messed my GPA up even more, stupid to think an English major needed Calc 3, but I’m telling you that class was hell for me, thank god I left maths behind me now and if it weren’t for my finals I would’ve failed.

I got an F first exam, D second Exam another F for third exam and finally my Hwk + Final exam was a B and A respectively, which got me my C the average of (A+B+D+F) :stuck_out_tongue:
(Prof dropped lowest test score).

Hey, its ok…I’m in the same boat as you…I have a TAG for Biological Sciences with Davis. I missed passing Calc 2 by 20 points this quarter :frowning: I explained my situation on the UC update form though. I hope they understand and don’t rescind my admission either! I applied and didn’t get in when I was in high school (4 yrs ago). I highlighted how much I’ve wanted to go to Davis and what I’m doing to pass the class- I’m retaking it this quarter and taking calc 3 over the summer…it’s the best I can do right? Hopefully, it works out for us…keep me updated!!

Calc 2 is usually the toughest of the series, so don’t beat yourself up too much if you find you didn’t do as well at it as you did in Calc 1 or 3. However, it is a weeder class, so if you got below a C and you really tried to do well, then you may want to consider whether a career in the sciences is really where your talents lie.

zclaire1: Thanks! I do think we should be fine…I have a TAG with Davis as well and according to the contract we should be OK. As long as we maintain a 3.0 overall and the math requirement is a C or better (that would be Pre-calc for me) so it doesn’t matter what we get in Calc 2 unless there is a special GPA minimum for a specific major which includes Calc 2.

zclaire1: I confirmed with a UCSD admissions rep today that as long as we still maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA and 2.0 term GPA then we will be fine for UCSD at least. So the D does not matter. She even told me I didn’t even need to retake it. However, I still need to since its a prereq for other major classes for me.

For UCD I did get admitted today however on the tag it clearly states that you need a C or better for courses taken in winter and spring and on the congratulatory note it also said the same so its not guaranteed for Davis. I did explain my D in calc 2 on the UCD update form. However, based on the wording I think if we re-take it it should be alright. However its not guaranteed 100% like UCSD. Anyway, I hope UCD works out for us!

Yeah, that sounds good. I think we should be okay as long as we retake the course. Unfortuantely, that means I have to take Calc 3 over the summer :frowning: I explained my situation on the UC update form…you also have to explain it in MyAdmissions in more detail, as well. I hope everything goes well!! crosses fingers

hey zclaire1,
Just to update you, UCD got back to me and said the D was ok as long as I got nothing lower than a C for my current spring quarter. I am so relieved!

Your situation is very similar to mine, I also go to Foothill and recently got a D in bio 1a >.> (Know professor erickson by any chance? yeah, she was my bio teacher). The final for that class was going to make or break my grade and unfortunately it broke my grade.

I also got into SD! (Top choice :D) and I was super worried about it since my GPA got lowered to a 2.98 overall because Bio was a 6 credit class  (I got A’s in my two other classes). However, my bio was not part of my igetc…but thanks for clearing the whole TAG thing up  I’m glad to know as long as I manage to raise it to 3.0 or over my admission will still be in good standing! That’s what I thought after panicking and rereading the TAG many times xD

And ahhhh I know delosantos. My bf had her for calc 1b :frowning: and my other friend. They both had like A’s or B+'s (I forgot) and totally knew the final…but somehow it dragged both their grades to C’s/C-'s or something. I don’t know the whole story but…it shocked them both.

Uh oh… not good. For all UCs everything mentioned is “C or better” D and F is only acceptable at CSUs. You had better check ASAP. Don’t wait on it because if you read all of the info/conditions it specifically states that they may revoke their offer for admission. Call the UC 1-800 info line. They can answer all of your questions. Good luck!
