so basically this is me. and this is a case of a girl who had a second chance to her life after coming to the states..compared to my past record like grades from 9th grade, it shows considerable improvement.....
anway sorry for this messy list...but these are the colleges that i am considering..:
and I chose these schools putting a wide range...from safety to reach schools

rice, washington university in St.louis, umichigan, UCLA, UCSD, UCberkley, emory, duke, carnegie mellon, northwestern, upenn, johns hopkins, columbia, stanford, harvard...

right now, im considering ea at stanford...
can anyone please tell me if I am going to the right way? are these colleges a good fit for me? are they too high? what schools would you think that I might get in as of now?
Thanks alot for reading my thread i really appreciate it

another question (sorry!): will the bad AP US history score affect my entrance to a college?!

our school: is not dat sompetitive with academics, I tried to take as many courses that were challening to me though..and as for rec: math teacher's one will be great since I am sooo close with him, and english: good, and I have another supplement from my mentor which will be great...i think..since I know her really well and she knows that I work hard..and try to bring up new ideas during my reasearch..

WOW, great record. I really wish I had tried that hard in High School. If you can’t get into those colleges straight out of High School I don’t think anyone can

thanx…i really hope so too…any word of advice?:)

You have a pretty good chance at Stanford. R u Vietnamese?

Stanford and Berkeley are really good at chemistry and if u r from CA, you’ll get into the UCs for sure. No problem

thnx asian75 for replyin… :)i really appreciate it
im not vietnamese im more of a korean haha, though im kinda mixed
and! im not from CA, so… hope i get into the UCs though

i know that berkley is really tough to get into with chem, so I think im gonna apply for biochem there (still, its hard…) thnx again :)

Since you’re not from CA. Your chance at UCs are pretty low esp for Berkeley.

will the chance be lower for UCs and Berkeley than ivy schools?

Berkeley and Ivy schools are about the same. Other UCs can be little bit higher

wow, i heard berkeley was hard…but its surprising that its about the same as ivy schools… what do you suggest as a safety school for me? thnx

safety schools: Emory and probably some other state schools.Berkeley is actullay harder than Ivy school for out of state. Berkeley acceptance rate for out of state is about 2%, while Ivy League, Stanford are around 10%

this guy asian has absolutely no idea what he is talking about.

rice-low reach
washington university in St.louis-high match/low reach
umichigan-high match
UCLA-match
UCSD-match
UCberkeley-high match (I honestly don’t know where you get the 2% OOS stat from, it must be coming from out of your ass)
emory-Match
duke-Low Reach/Reach
Carnegie mellon-High Match
northwestern-High Match/Low Reach
upenn-Mid/Low Reach
Johns hopkins-Low Reach
columbia, stanford, harvard-Reach/High Reach (as it is for everyone).

If you really want to know, I’d say the Berkeley OOS rate is higher than the instate rate especially because of the crisis going on there in Cali. Most people are mistaken when they say Berkeley/UCLA is impossible to get into from out of state. True, only 8% of UCLA is OOS, however, that is because 8% of the applicants is OOS. If you compare the OOS stats to IS stats, you would see that the OOS acceptance rate is actually a few points higher than IS. With your class rank and SAT scores, getting into the UCs should be no problem.
Also, you don’t need safeties, you have enough matches.

Yeah I was wrong. Out of state acceptance rate for Berkeley was 17.6% for last year. Higher than top ivy league and Stanford. Slightly higher/ about the same with bottom Ivy League. @Genre is too optimistic. UPenn can’t be mid/low reach. Upen is high reach. Berkeley is reach too.

Why would berkeley be a reach for her?
She has a near perfect GPA (average GPA at berkeley is 3.9)
Also, the average SAT to be accepted to berkeley is around 2100-2150. She has a 2240, which is more than enough.

UPenn is a lower ivy, and unless she was applying to Wharton(which she’s not), I don’t think that it should be in anyway a high reach.

well thanx so much for everyone replying…
i think i have a better idea of where im heading to now!

Ur scores r excellent but what abt ur essays dey r imp as well!
