Hey CCers! I'm a freshman in high shool and I just took my first practice SAT today. I was wondering if you could help me grade it? Because I woould be eternally grateful!

The topic was: Is the world changing for the better?

I wrote:

The civilizations that live on the world are continuously changing, and for that reason, the world will never remain the same. However, although these civilizations are changing, are they changing for the better? In some cases the earth is becoming a better place, and in others it is obvious to the eye that humans are causing destruction. For example, although alternate sources of energy are being discovered in order to protect the earth's depleting natural resources, various other forms of enviromental destruction are continuing, supporting the belief that the world is changing for the worse.

Hybrid engines have recently been introduced to the global market, providing a short term solution to the rapid disappearance of fossil fuels. Hybrid engines run on a combination of gasoline and electricity, which means that they use less fuel than the average car, which runs solely on gasoline. This is a step toward saving the environment because if less gasoline is required to be unearthed from the ground, then less forests will be uprooted and the disappearing fossil fuels will be saved. However, it can be argued that the uprise of American dependence on automobiles, which run on fossil fuels, from the post-WWII era to the present is what caused the massive depletion of natural resources. Thus the American ciilization is only harmin the world and by finding alternate sources of energy, they are only solving their own environmental problems and not causing global advancement.

It can also be argued that the American civilization is causing further global digression by throwing waste into the ocean and killing the wildlife. We live in an ecosystem. If an American corporation throws nuclear waste into the ocean and kills all the dolphins, this could cause canned tuna fish manufacturers to catch dead dolphins in their nets instead of tuna fish, causing their corporations to go bankrupt due to insufficiency of producing a supply of tuna fish for the demand, which means thousands of people will lose their jobs, affecting the economy. It is a chain of predicaments with the American civilization creating all the problems.

Evidently, the American civilization, through its changes, is actually making the world worse. America is ruining the environment which causes problems for the rest of the world, and though they have a few short term solutions, they are not enough to undo the damage that has already been done. The world is doomed, all thanks to America.

Thanks so much for reading my essay! When you rate it, could you please specify whether you are rating from the 0-6 scale or the 0-12 scale? That would be great!
