Please please PLEASE tell me what my chances are at princeton??

ill be applying towards the end of 2011.
My GPA: is about 3.6
Im a student in India, and the scoring is much tougher as is the curriculum, so my GPA doesn't reflect my potential. My percentile in class is 1/70.

SAT SCORES:
SAT 1: Math 740 CR 750 and Writing 720 (essay- 10)
SAT 2: Pending. I intend on taking Math 2 and Physics. (I'm not too bad at these, so I should be able to manage a minimum of 750 in both the tests.. I might take one in Biology or Chemistry as well)

Course Workload: Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, English, Economics, Environmental Science.

Responsibilities:

1)Class President

2)Captain of the school debating team

3)Captain of the school drama team

4)Chairperson of the Security Council and the General Assembly in the school Model UN.

5) Member of the core group that started Model UN in the eastern region of India.

6)Secretary of the Creative Arts Club.

7) Founding member of the Creative Arts Club.

8)Director of the Science Club.

9) Assistant Director of a professional theatre company called Treehat Productions. The company is local. Its hoping to go national within the next year or two with its upcoming productions.

Awards and Merits:

1)Best Actor, Best Director, and awardee of the Best Production- I have won these at intra-school and inter-school events. (In fact, I wrote, directed and produced a play for an inter-school drama festival, I was competing with teachers rather than students, and the play won Best Production and I won Best Actor.)

2)Best Debater at multiple national debate tournaments.

3)Best Delegate: I have been to only two Model UNs so far. Our school doesn't give us much of an opportunity in this area. (which is why we started Model UN in the first place). Both times i represented USA in the Security Council and won Best Delegate.

In the field of co-curriculars, theatre has been a sphere of great interest. My essay aims to be on theatre and drama, I may even send a clip of the play i directed, or a clip of me acting out a role for which i have been awarded.

I dont do much volunteer work. About 2 hours a week, i teach under-priveleged children of ages 5-9 english and basic arithmetic.

That's pretty much it.

CHANCE ME :) :) :)
please... and give me some suggestions on what will boost my app is this isnt enough (which im sure it isnt)

Intended Major: Economics, and Theatre.

That’s awesome!

thanks
anything i can work on… im scared of my SATs being too low. 2300 is usually a cut off for such prestigious schools.

Aah! forget it. Your SATs are fine.

Work on SAT Subjects and GPA.

Use your essays to distinguish yourself and present a unique point of your perspective.

Essays are very very important. Work hard on essays.

Work hard on essays.

Work hard on essays.

(Oh! This reminds me that colleges hate repetition, so don’t convey same thing time and again through different parts of your application)

7.When you are done with your app, just before submitting, review the whole app and see whether the whole app conveys your story or not (Princeton adcoms love stories).

Enjoy your high school! :)

thanks
ill do just that.

2210 is not bad for SAT’s (did I add right?). 2300 is by no means a cut off. However, if you are applying for next year, try and take them again later this year. Just with another year of school + a bit more prep you should get to about 2300.

Your great strength will be your diversity and story. TELL THEM WHY YOU ARE INTERESTING in your essays. With that, you have a decent shot for sure.

ok i need some advice.
i was contemplating either giving SAT 1 again… to maybe raise my score to a 2300, or give an Advanced Placement instead.

APs in like Calculus AB and Macro Econ (or physics instead, basically not more than two subjects coz of dirth of time). im from india, we dont have ap courses, so since ill specify self study- even 2 fours in the APs i give should look better than an increase of say 90-100 points in my sat 1? right?

also, i dont mean to sound too demanding. but “decent shot” is too risky, i need to a good shot- to be safer- coz im not applying to too many places.

what do you think i can do to really raise the bar keeping in mind what i already have going?

No. APs are not taken into consideration in place of SATs. ACT can be. Looks like you can pull up at least your math score to a 800, so you should work on that.

CC can’t tell you you have a good shot at Princeton. Almost no one has a good shot at Princeton. Your credentials are a-w-e-some, but with the crazy sub-10% acceptance rate and without your essays and recommendation letters, no one knows if you have a normal shot or a good shot.

i figured i wont give SAT 1 again even though i may pull my math scores… because im anyway gonna give sat 2 math 2…
doesnt it make more sense to give 2 APs.

APs won’t help much. Another SAT or a couple strong SAT IIs would help more. Don’t underestimate the reality of a sub-10% admission rate. Even very well qualified applicants are rejected.

Good luck.

I think you can have a curriculum rigorous enough for Princeton in India without taking those APs. Taking APs in subjects you can’t have at school might be better.

Oh don’t dream of a “good-shot” at Princeton, others already have it and you’re not one of them. Nevertheless, good luck! :)

Take AP’s :)

Did nobody notice that this is an international applicant from India?

There are only like 10 Indians a year at Princeton (which is still kind of high, but still). So, are you one of the top 10 Indian students graduating next year?

^I don’t think OP is. There are like much stronger applicants than OP who don’t even dare to apply…but it’s pretty normal to dream and apply anyway.

The question is whether he is one of the top 10 indians applying to Princeton…

^Hmmmm and it’s impossible for us to predict if Princeton admissions will think of him as one of the top ten Indian applicants. My first impression of OP was that he’s not, but he certainly is a top candidate and now, that I know a little more about him I’ll bet that he’s heading somewhere good.

Haha I’m an international Indian living in Illinois hopefully I can be in the top twenty applying.

Hey sorry for highjacking your thread but top 10 from India would be at what score exactly?

Don’t forget that it is a massively biased sample:

Indians
Applying to P.

If we assumed that every 18 year old indian took the SAT (call it 20 million or so…) there would statistically be 5000 perfect scores (assuming that the distribution of indian intelligence is comparable to everyone else at the high end…)

How many take the SAT? How many apply to P… I am sure that there are still at least 10 indians applying to P with 2350+ at least. Perhaps even 2400. I just do not know the numbers of I applicants.

If you were domestic, you would have a decent shot. International makes it MUCH harder, but you still could very well get in.
