Please post list of topics for College Essays for UCs and other California Universities

Hi,

I am a Junior and would like to start working on my essays soon in Spring.

Can someone please let me know what topics I should start thinking about.
I’ll be applying to all UCs and also Pepperdine, LMU, SDSU, SLO.
Do each UC like UCLA, UCSD have a separate section or is it all common?
Do I need to prepare essay UC specific or more generic that applies to all UCs?

Thanks a lot!

All UC’s use the same essay prompts and they should be the same for the next application cycle but not a guarantee. The UC application opens in August. SDSU and SLO do not require or accept essays. LMU uses either their own application, the common application or the coalition application.

You can brainstorm some ideas but I would wait until the official essay prompts are posted.

Thanks a lot, Do I need to choose one of the prompts or all of them? Should I just prepare for one?

You pick one of the essays but many schools have supplemental essays that you will also have to submit.

OK I think it’s just one prompt I need to choose. (Thank God!!). Also Gumbymom, please let me know approx how many words the essay should be? 1200 words?

The common app essay is 650 words. For the UC’s, it is 350 for each personal insight essay (choose 4).
