Can any current students post the merit aid they receive? I know that I'm not the only one who's freaking out about aid now that I know that I've been accepted to NYU.

I can't f***ing wait any longer to find out my aid! I'm not going to enjoy my spring break because I'm so nervous. I can either relax and take in the next week off from school or I can anxiously spend my time worrying about my aid which I find out on Apr. 1 - the day I go back to school!

if this helps vvvvaaaapppp, a friend of mine has already been accepted to CAS and received a scholarship. She has a nearly perfect GPA, is involved in pretty much everything, and got a 1560/1600 on her SAT. They awarded her a $20K scholarship.

Would you mind posting where she was from? I only ask because geography is working in my favor (though I'm not entirely sure it will have any significant impact for merit aid).

ehm...I doubt geography has anything to do with merit aid... I thought merit aid relied on GPA and standardized test scores, but don't quote me on that, that's how other universities base merit aid upon anyway.

she is from Queens, NY

my son who is a freshman received at 15K trustees scholarship and 15K Carroll and Milton Petrie scholarship

He is from philadelphia, pa. his SAT was 790 math, 740 reading and 720 writing.

Does anyone know if and how merit awards affect need awards at NYU?

"need awards at nyu"

that's a funny one.

I have a question, do freshmen have to live in U housing? I was thinking it would be A LOT cheaper if I were to room with like 3 other people in Brooklyn or Queens in a POS apartment. Would this be possible freshmen year?

if you opt out of nyu housing (freshman year or later), you are given lowest priority for housing all future years with no guarantee that you will get NYU housing at all.

I don't think that NYU requires freshmen to stay in university housing, but commuting from outside of Manhattan sounds really tiring. Did you check the housing rates? A triple at Rubin (the cheapest rate I could find) would be a little over six grand a year. The only major drawback seems to be the lack AC, but I think I can put up with the first and last stints of the year in which I would need AC.

don't count on getting the 6 grand Rubin room. There aren't that many of them. That said, there are 650 kids in Rubin (my son is there) and his room is the higher rubin rate of 8160. it's a tiny room, I won't kid you.

Sue, what is the Carroll and Milton Petrie Scholarship for? Merit?

I interpret this as a merit scholarship for kids with need.
My son had high stats, has overcome adversity and has financial need.

Can someone post a link of all the scholarships NYU offers and the qualifications for each scholarship?

Thanks.

How do people know what scholarships they've been awarded already?

there really is no link that has all the possible scholarships. I had never heard of one that my son got until he received the FA offer.

http://admissions.nyu.edu/financial.aid/scholarships.html
has links to some, the differ by school. But I bet there are ones that exist that aren't listed here.

And it doesn't tell you at that site what the qualifications are or how much they are worth.

My information is based on a current NYU freshman. We got the FA offer the first week of April last year
