Someone please proofread my essay!
Yes. But I may not get to it until tomorrow.
I’d be happy to do so.
I’d caution you against sending you essay to strangers on the internet and I’d also caution parents and others against offering to read and/or edit essays. I’ve offered a few times, only to be deluged by other random applicants.
^^ Yes, the deluge can happen, but I have no problems saying no if I get too busy, and I like the idea of helping kids whose schools apparently do not have the guidance resources that were available to my daughter when she was applying to college.
I second @AboutTheSame’s comments.
I like to know that I can be of help to students that don’t have otherwise have access to good editing and (sometimes) sage advice. Now that my daughter’s applications have all been submitted (she got into her SCEA school, thank you very much), I’m happy to help out when I am able to do so.
I was especially pleased to find out that one of the students that I helped with her essay got into her ED (Ivy) school and that I have been able to point some students in the right direction and to have provided resources that they otherwise might not have had.
@latitude1126 - just make sure that whomever you select to read your essays has a respectable number of posts and never post anything online.
I enjoy helping students. I agree that saying yes to one means PM’s from others, but it is easy enough to say no. I remember a student from Ghana who got into Cornell. I think it is wonderful to hear news back from those who do get in to one of the places they wanted. I was trained in non-directive tutoring and also feel it is unethical to edit too much. There are ways to help while keeping the essay very much the student’s own writing.
