I have been to Rutgers (New Brunswick), and I think it was a little too big for me. My brother goes to St. Peter's College (Jersey City) on a full ride, so I was looking there as well. Thanks

I would expect you to get into Rutgers, but you need to decide if you want a larger research based school, or a smaller liberal arts, or teaching focused school. You may want to apply to RU if your father would really like you to attend an in-state, state school.

I think I prefer the mid-sized schools. I didn't like Rutgers that much. As stated before, I feel that it is too big.

My father doesn't mind if I go out of state to a private school. He feels that it would be cheaper to go to the STATE schools that are in NJ.

Your father is right. A school like the Univ. of Mary Washington would be about 2,000 more than TCNJ providing that neither offered aid to you (sticker price).

I agree with you about RU. We are from NJ too and my S is not applying to RU. He wants small to midsize.

You might also check out some schools other private schools, but you would need to investigate the history/IR departments. You might looking at Muhlenburg, and Gettysburg.

You may want to look at Rowan since it is instate, but I think you will be on the upper end of the sudent profile there. If you want to teach history it would be a good choice.

Thanks,

I don't really want to teach history. I am interested in goverenment (foreign service, etc.) or law. That is why I really like GWU, but again the price is too much (and they prob. wouldn't give me any money).

The only NJ state school I really liked was TCNJ. Nice campus, not too far from home (but far enough!), and competitive.

TCNJ is the only state school that I really liked too. For teaching I do think Rowan is fine if one can't get into TCNJ.

Well then that leaves all private schools for you, unless your father is willing to have go to an oos state school.

If you do plan on law school you will want to go to a less expensive, and perhaps that may mean less competitive undergraduate school, where you get merit aid. Just get excellent grades wherever you do the UG work, so you can get into Law school (if that is what you want).

Yeah, that is what my older brother did. He went to Saint Peter's College, and then got some money to attend Notre Dame Law Scool. Of course, doing well on the LSAT always helps....

How hard is it to get into the Elliott School at GWU?

I have no idea. Your brother got into Notre Dame Law school from St. Peters!! Wow! That shows you that ug is just not as important if you are going to grad school and do well wherever you go for ug.

Yeah, he got some money from Notre Dame, so he went there. He also got into Minnesota and Fordham. I forget where else.

I agree, I think your UG doesn't matter much if you want to go to grad school. You just have to make sure you do well.

Also, my other brother now goes to St. Peter's (seems like a family tradition! lol) on a full ride. He is double majoring in History and Mathematics. He turned down BC and a couple of other schools . This is because he plans on getting his master's or doctorate.

motormouth, do you go to St. Pete's Prep?

Motormouth512, Are thinking about St. Peter's as well?

I am looking into St. Peter's, but I haven't decided yet if I will go.
