Been doing lots of research and I still don't know if NYU, U Rochester, UVA, Georgetown, Boston and William and Mary have good computer science departments. Their websites all say it's rated in the first tier but it's all subjective. In my mind, I have Carnegie Mellon, Berkeley, Cornell, Colgate and UC Santa Barbara at the top of the list as far as their computer science department goes.

Any help in minimizing my list would be great (need to toss the schools with bad cs departments out of my list)!

Thanks a mill!

The rest aren't too great for Computer Science.

Well ok apart from the obvious, do Boston College, C. of William and Mary, Columbia, Georgetown, NYU (dream school***), UCSD, UCSB, U Rochester, and UVA have good computer science departments?

The others are obvious reaches for me and most known for their cs departments. Any others in the list above that are at all notable for a decent cs department?

Boston College's CS department isn't good to my knowledge. I can't speak of the others, but I can say that UCSD, URochester, and UVA have good CS programs. I'd venture so far as to say that NYU has a good one as well, but probably ranked between 20-30 (if my memory is correct).

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Computer and Systems Engineering Program was ranked 22nd in Sept 2004 and then 20th in Sept 2005 By US News and World report.
