What do you guys think? I'm basically an activist at heart, but I might need to tone down a little in my app (i.e. create different app versions) for those less activist ones.

Thanks much!

Are you talking about activism among students, or how the powers-that-be and admissions committee will view activism? You state the former, but it sounds like you're really concerned about the latter, and they are entirely different questions.

Hm, isn't it true that they might consider activism more favorably if their own students are doing that? That's what I think.

How are they different? So even if their students arent very activist, they may still see me favorably?

Do you have a meaningful cause or are you just an angry young man/woman?

I've mentioned one project of mine in the short answer, and yes I hope I did show a good level of thought behind my causes. Of course, I won't explicitly state that i'm an activist - I'm just afraid that adcoms will construe me to be one, and at those non-activist schools, hurt me.

Actually, come to think of it, ONLY my short answer is anything abt activism, and that activism is not extreme. it's abt how I tried to hold a national public event to promote free speech and raise funds for a charity at the same time. The rest of my app is pretty balanced between govt/politics/leadership and science.

anyway, is any of the schools against activism? from how i described my app, where would I be hurt?

No, they're all in favor of free speech and efforts to call attention to poverty, war, global warming and anything that shows you've made an effort to become educated about such issues and try to resolve them will be looked upon favorably...but if you're an activist for the right to carry guns, for instance, I think all of those colleges might want to pass you over. What you describe above sounds safe!

Do you play lacrosse?

I'd guess that Harvard would be the most appreciative of activism for a liberal cause (all of them fit though). But you should add Brown to the list.
