If you’re thinking of business as your backup, take a look at the rankings for the business schools for each(not sure JHU has a business school). Fair or not, the rank of a business school plays a gigantic role in job prospects upon graduation. That might help in making your decision.

Yeah ik that why i said most. Which one from that list has the best business school??

Both Forbes and US News and World Report rank business schools.

*
Hi I’m a rising senior. My stats are as follows
GPA: 4.02(weighted obviously)
CLASS RANK: 60/430 (14% @ very competetive schoo)
ACT: 31 (taken twice, might try again)
COURSE WORK: 9 AP classes (counting senior year) and almost all honors
*

Your ACT is lowish for those top schools.

Let me give you a word of advice if you want to be premed. Do NOT go to a school where your test scores are low for the school. By doing so, nearly all of your premed classmates will be stronger students than you are.

Premed prereqs are weeder courses…limited number of As. The chances of you getting the As at a school where your stats are modest are SLIM.

Also, those OOS publics that you have listed wont’ give you any aid. Will your parents pay full or near-full cost?

Do you know how much your parents will pay?

Duke

Jhu

Saint louis university

Washu

Upenn

Temple

U of Maryland

U of Minnesota

U of Wisconsin

U of michigan

U of North Carolina

U of Chicago

Northwestern

It is quite hard to get into any of the private schools listed in this list and some of the publics are equally hard to get into if you are not instate (UNC to name one).

pantherman

She went to Dartmouth. Also, listen to the advice of some of these other posters. Don’t think that if you go to one of the most rigorous schools that you will automatically get into med school. Your going to have to work your really hard my friend. If you think you can handle it, then go ahead and try. It’s definitely going to be a challenge.

^ Thanks entomom!

Don’t think that if you go to one of the most rigorous schools that you will automatically get into med school

so true.

On this website and on that “other” premed website there are plenty of postings from students who went to ivies and similar schools who ended up with no acceptances.

A number of them had less-than-med-school-worthy GPAs. Often, when pressed, it comes out that these students’ stats were lowish or just average for their schools. Their premed classmates with the perfect/near-perfect stats grab the A’s.

What are your thoughts about case western? Could I get in?

Oh and what are my overall chances at getting into 1 of those schools. I have a couple backups but if i applied to 8 selective schools what do u think my chances are or being accepted at one or two?

How did you do on your APs?

Have you taken any subject tests?

What State are you from?

A five and a three on my aps so far. Haven’t checked the new ones yet. I took te act and got a 31

Oh and Minnesota!

So you should have a reasonable shot at U Minn?

There is a chemistry co winner of Nobel prize a year ago. He is on Stanford med school faculty, won the prize with a prof at Duke.

Started out at U Minn Duluth and went to Yale med school.

Since GPA is a very important factor for a med school admission, going to more competitive schools and not doing well works against you. This is the point the other posters are making when they say school is not that important if you want to go to medical school but doing well is.

What are your parents willing to pay for college?

With a 31 act, you’re looking at SLU, Minn, Temple from your list.

I don’t know if I can really chance you for any of the selective schools because they are so random with who they let in. Do you have great testing scores? Yes, but so do so many other applicants. I think your bound to get into one of those schools but you never know what can happen. I think you asked about Case Western; yeah I think you have pretty good chance of getting in. Just understand its GPA and MCAT more than it is about the name of the school. It’s great if you go to Harvard, but if you come out with a 3.0 and a bad MCAT score; I’m fairly sure you will not get into any med school because it is VERY COMPETITIVE.
