oh and national merit commended... the whole who's who and national honor roll that everyone seems to have.... and lots of awards as like top student in certain classes... i've been ranked 1 in my class all the way through... but it has dwindled to only 71 kids in my class now...

Kilo:

What state are you from? What do you want to major in? And, do you know if anyone before you (in the last, say 5 years) went to any of the schools?

i'm from texas... houston area... i want to major in neuroscience...

sorry but i'm not sure what you're asking with the last question... ?
if you mean people from my school? everyone seems to be content with going to texas state schools.... last year a girl went to jhu... one guy went to MIT... and someone went to harvard once.... i don't know anyone who's gotten into columbia [except my grandpa]

i also want to major in journalism/english/otherwise writing...

Here's just my 2 cents of your schools:

Columbia: Okay
Duke: Good
Wash U: Good to Very Good (they would like more writers)
JHU: Very Good (they also need more humanities majors, tends to be science-y)

Percentage wise, JHU is by far the easiest to get into for you. It is a bargin for you, according to Loren Pope (author of Colleges that Change Lives). WashU tends to it's numbers and stats, so you have a good shot--especially because they tend to attract science majors in droves, but not creative writing majors). Duke looks pretty good for you, as you are at or above the 75%ile for the university, and they have a great english department--although more deconstructionalist and post-deconstructionalist). Columbia, because it attracts many english majors, is a bit more of a crap-shoot. You are in the running, but less so than at the others.

Anyways, hope this helps you. Good luck. :)

sweet thanks, that's actually very encouraging....

out of curiosity, what are you majoring in?

Dance/Theatre/Philosophy. :) And, at the schools with computer science maybe an Independent major combining all four. Dance is my primary focus, however--if I had to choose.
