Hey everybody, I was wondering what my chance at getting accepted to the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley are like. I will be applying in November for the fall of 2006.

California Community College Student

My stats:
3.9+ GPA
All requirements will be done in time
Elementary school reading lab volunteer
County Superiors Office Intern
Summer internship at Congressmans Office
Associated Students Governing Board Member
AGS club member
Founder, and President of the first Amnesty International chapter my CC
Volunteer Youth Soccer Referee
Summer job working 20 hrs a week for a financial advisor
I will be an English tutor at my CC in the fall
Have held down a job for the past 2 years working 18 hrs a week

I have a huge desire to study at Haas and would appreciate any input on my chances

You have a good shot, make sure you finish as much of the pre major stuff as you can by fall because then they wont have to sit and wait for your grades from pre major classes taken in spring.

I would say your chances are 50-60% just due to the fact that sooo many qualified applicants with "real world" experience and flawless g.p.a.'s apply to haas each year. Good luck though you have an impressive stat sheet.

thanks for the input guys... by the way, are there any other schools in america with B-schools in my reach? other places i should consider applying?

Did I miss something, don't you need a BA/BS/4 year degree to go to Haas????

If you really want to go, go work for three years then apply.

Have you taken the GMATs? How'd you do?

There are many great B-Schools out there, Haas is definitly top notch, I would apply else where as well however. Anderson at UCLA is also a very good school, and less selective than Haas.

Ohhh!!! Sorry for my ignorance in posting about that.

Well seeing as that is the case, if you don't get in, there is always the graduate programs, I would much prefer an MBA from Haas than an undergrad personally.

HighHopes, I would say you are in as long as you have completed their prereqz...Also, i have heard that haas transfers have to go through extra screening procedure during the winter session before you transfer.

graduated HS with a 3.4 GPA
SAT was a 960
SAT2's even worse..

maybe if there are schools that dont look at HS grades or SAT's.

I should mention I'm a junior transfer, i have heard that schools dont really care about HS once you have established yourself in college. They should be able to tell what kind of student I have become with 4 semesters of college work to the point that my HS stats shouldnt matter. my 2 cents anyway

good thing about UC transfers is they dont even look at HS.. i dunno how the rest of the country does things

there is a second round in february if im not mistaken where they shave off the students who have not completed prereqs and ask the remaining 40% or so to submit a resume.

Most of the privates do want SAT scores. UCs are unusual in not looking at high school at all. What about bizecon at UCLA, I think that would be second to Haas.

Bizecon is very good at LA, however, they for some reason require the engineering sequence calculus rather than the business/social science calc sequence. the classes are very similar, and i could take the engineering calc classes, but they are very similar to what ive already taken and gotten an A in. not to mention, i wont even get credit for taking it cause they are considered equals. i think this is just another filter LA is putting on it applicants because they have no other means of trimming down all the applicants.
