Hi, I am currently in the final year of high school ,I’m from India.
I scored 2100 on my SAT’s (750 in math).
GPA : - 3.8 or 90% in CBSE board.
E.C’s : -
1.Intern at an Eye Donation NGO.
2.Made 2 android apps which got over 10,000 downloads in total.
3.Made one IOS app.
4.Part of maths and computer club.
What are my chances of getting into universities like Carnegie,Purdue,Berkeley,University of Washington?
I am looking for majoring in CS.
I forgot to mention University of Wisconsin - Madison.
You have good chances at UWash and UWM and Purdue. CMU is a reach due to your low scores and the general lack of EC’s. Berkeley will be a high match If you didnt apply for fin aid.
I beg to differ from IBstudent10001, your statistics are very strong. While your SAT isn’t the best, it isn’t the worst either from admitted students. You’re in the range of scores that look good–2100 and above. Now that you have that, unless you have a 2400 or you’re applying to Harvard where the average SAT score is 2250, I doubt increasing your score would have a much of an impact.
Furthermore, while your ECs aren’t very broad, they do demonstrate strong commitment. You’ve done things that many other future admittees haven’t. I doubt many CS applicants can claim that they’ve made any sort of an app on their own outside of class, let alone one with over 10,000 downloads. Same goes for the internship, assuming you’re doing real on-job work as an intern, instead of just being a paper pusher. If so, highlight your duties when you apply.
You are a solid applicant. I don’t think CMU, UWash, and Purdue have separate admissions programs that are significantly different from the general application pool for engineering/CS majors, so CMU is a match school and the latter two are low match schools. However, Berkeley has a completely different pool for CS/engineering admissions and many students who are accepted at MIT are rejected by Berkeley engineering. There are also many cross-admits as well. It’s going to be a reach for the vast majority of even elite engineering students as it will be for you. You’ll be competing with ISEF finalists (as one of my friends, now a Berkeley CS major was), USAMO winners, and etc. Don’t apply with high expectations, but it’s worth a try.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it.
@screen8888 CMU is very strong for computer science, and the average applicant pool for SCS is very competitive. Even if the OP had a perfect score and a perfect gpa, it wouldn’t guarantee him admission to that school. As far as Purdue goes, OP’s scores are higher than the average. Hence, it would classify as a low match/safety school.
@screen8888 CMU for SCS has just as high, or higher stat averages than Harvard. You probably are just unaware of this, but CMU’s SCS is ranked number 1, with the likes of MIT, UCB, Stanford, CalTech, etc.
Also, of course it’ll help to get a higher SAT Score (unless you’re already at a 2250).
Yes, CMU’s CS program is very very difficult to get into. I agree that you should aim for a 2250+ if you can, especially due to the fact that you are an international applicant. But very nice EC’s, your android/IOS apps seems really cool!
