Topic: Is talking the most effective and satisfying way of communicating with others?

Talking is certainly the most effective and personal method of communication. This is the reason proposals are made face-to-face. Talking is the most intimate form of communication, and allows much more information to be conveyed compared to other methods through body language and facial expressions.

Digital forms of communication are often confusing, and meaning can become distorted through choice of diction. However, talking face to face prevents most of these confusions by allowing information to be conveyed through not only words, but also posture and expressions. In fact, the majority of one's message can be derived by examining their body language. It can also be noted that presentations and project proposals convey much more information than an essay or an article in considerably less words. It can be seen that talking face to face is much more than simple verbal communication.

Talking is also the most intimate form of communication. As opposed to texting or emailing, talking carries a personal feeling that comes from the minuscule gestures and habits of one's speech. During a conversation, two or more people respond immediately to one another, as opposed to the usually heavily delayed replies of emails and texts. Although we do not notice it, camaraderie is built on these conversation where people are actively engaged at all times. If person can feel valued when he/she knows that his/her thoughts are acknowledged, and that his/her opinions are valued by his/her conversational partners. As seen above, talking is an intimate form of communication that effectively builds relationships.

My parents have always argued against the replacement of talking with our phones or face-to-face with texting. Claiming that such an impersonal method of communication damages relationships, they maintain that talking must not be replaced by other forms of communication. After extensive amounts of miscommunication over texts, I have begun to believe that although texting is convenient, it is also highly ineffective and impersonal compared to talking. Recently I have attempted to call instead of text whenever possible, and have observed that I was able to communicate much more effectively. Personally, I prefer talking over texting due to its advantages.

Communication involves much more than just words, and only talking in person can fully convey one's message in its entirety. The amount of information that is lost leads to deteriorating relationships in the long run due to the impersonality of texting and emailing. All in all, talking is irreplaceable to human communication and is the most intimate and effective form of it.
