Please rate my progression. I'll rate or chance back within an hour!

Hello CC, I'm currently a male sophomore from NY, and I'm already stressing out over colleges. I need to know how I'm progressing, because my parents and I are planning to go visit a few schools this year and I don't want to waste my time. Also, if I can get advice on what I need to do.

Freshmen Year
89 GPA
All honors, no APs offered
Marching Band. My school has an extremely prestigious marching band which requires a ton of commitment
JV Basketball
Track and Field
Job at a snack shop for about 5 months
Italian Club
Honor roll and high honor roll every time
(I know i was lacking in EC's that year)

Sophomore Year
As of right now, my gpa is probably around an 84, which i know is terrible but it is going up, and I'm a hard worker when I need to be. It will probably end up being an 87 or 88
189 PSAT, but keep in mind i took it with no studying, as instructed. Also it was the highest score in my entire grade, and some 4.0 GPA kids took it
Student Senate-A group that starts programs, fundraises and can change rules and regulations in my school. (I'm something of a leader in this group)
Marching Band again
JV Basketball captain
Track and field
Volunteering at a basketball program for children
Volunteering at a hospital
Italian club
All honors classes
Got the same job back

That's about it currently, but next year I'm really trying to focus on academics. I'm capable of getting a 4.0, but I've been lazy these two years. Test taking is my biggest strength.

I was wondering if it's even possible to get into a few schools I'm interested in. Vanderbilt, UMiami, USC (I know, probably not), UGeorgia, UC Santa Barbara and UVA.

I can guarantee a chance back, and I know quite a bit about colleges

bummppp. im sure someone can help me

Keeping it honest with you, your gpa and your ecs will be the biggest issues. 87 ish isnt gonna cut it for the schools you wanna go to. You have dug yourself into a hole, but your in all honors so it can be too bad. Once you take aps your gpa will go up. Overall 1-10 i was say your at like 6 in terms of a rate. You would need to get a 93 ish to get your gpa up to 90.
Your Psat score is really goood, that wont be an issue just get your grades up! Look at all those schools. Theres no such thing as wasting time. You will have your reaches, and you might get into them. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!!

Chance Back

University of Georgia (I live in Georgia) will probably be fairly easy for you to get into as long as you keep working hard and try to raise your GPA and get good SAT scores. Vanderbilt will be a low reach for you but your other schools seem fairly reachable. A lot of my friends have gotten in where you want to go, and I think with your grades and EC’s you’ll be fine - USC i think will be fairly reachable too. Hope this helps.

You are in line for UGA and UMiami. The others seem to be a reach at this point mostly b/c of gpa. It should be above 90 for those schools. 189 PSAT sophomore, I would suspect, would convert to a 2100+ by junior year which is good enough. Just continue to take the most challenging courses you can and work hard.

Definitely UGA and Miami, your gpa might be too low for the others, but if you do really well on the SATs that could make your chances obviously really good. Don’t stress as a sophomore, think about what major you want to pursue and really what you want to do for life. What I’ve learned is try to keep the grades up, do what you like, and most of the time things will just fall into place.

Thanks a lot guys, I really thought I was wasting my time looking at these schools. Next year I’m planning on doing alot more, and I’m even going to try to get my GPA to a 97 for junior year, even though that’s difficult. be sure to PM me if you ever need something chanced or whatever.

UVA is practically impossible to get into out of state so don’t waste your time unless you have immaculate SATs or GPA.
UMiami and UGA you have a decent chance if you show dedication in improving your grades and improve/maintain your ECs. You want your ECs to stand out, not be a laundry list.
USC, again, will be very hard to get into for anyone outside of state. I’m suggest looking at SUNY schools like Binghamton or Purchase.

Chance back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1109875-chance-me-if-youre-procrastinating-i-chance-back.html

Thanks but I thought USC didn’t look too much at location because they’re a private school? but yes, I agree with you on the EC’s and GPA. But about SUNY, i can no longer stand the cold and want to go south, if only 5 hours or so. I actually live about 5 minutes away from purchase

bump. i hate to ask for too much but some more input would be appreciated
