When people say high match, does that mean they think you are ideal for the school exactly or that you are borderline match but slight chance at rejection? I’m confused.

@RHSclassof16 I believe it means you have a really good chance of getting in. :)

oh ok.
UCD, UCSB, UCSC, UCSD.

UCD=Reach
UCSB=Reach
UCSC=Low Reach may even match.
UCSD=High Reach

UCD- low reach
UCSB- low reach
UCSC-high match
UCSD-reach-high reach

Bump…

High match means you are a borderline match. High match stands between match and low reach.

UCD: reach
UCSB: reach
UCSC: high match
UCSD: high reach

All reach, but UCSC is a possible match!

@SoDoMojo what exactly is the difference between low reach & reach?

Just wanna confirm lol

You have a very well-rounded application, despite your fear of mediocre test scores and grades. I think you have a good chance of getting accepted to all of those schools!

@darkpalms probably not UCSD lol but hopefully UCD, UCSB, and UCSC I hope when they read my essays, see I’m first gen & low income and the amount of community service I’ve done, they’ll give me a chance. Thanks for your encouragement, I really need it.

Bumpppp

(Please read entire post before replying)

UCSD: Reach
UCSB: Reach
UCD: Reach
UCSC: Low Reach

Your GPA would be acceptable if you had a difficult course rigor. However, you don’t have that aspect. Unfortunately, UC schools are notorious for placing emphasis on numbers. If you’re essay is superb, you have a chance, but based on what you’ve provided so far, I think you have a chance of getting into UCSC and maybe UCSB. I don’t see much light for UCSD or UCD. Kids with extremely difficult course rigor, 3.5-3.6 GPAs, and great SAT scores get rejected every year.

@lyndak but wouldn’t my choice of major and EC’c/community services help as well?

I also explained in my personal statement why I didn’t take a lot of AP courses…but even then I took some challenging standard college prep courses, if that counts for something.

@UCh0peful It will! Everything counts as something and that will show that you tried to move out of your comfort zone. I think that if you’re able to encompass all of your experiences and hardships thoroughly through your essay, you have a good chance.

@lyndak I know UCSD is a long shot for me, but do you think it will help me get in UCD?

UC Davis actually isn’t too much of a difference from UCSD. US News ranks them both at #39 in the nation. UCD has a lower average GPA and SAT score but they’re still a little higher than what you’re sitting at. Like I said, that’s AVERAGE which means plenty of students get in below those numbers. Your college classes will most definitely help you out.

@lyndak yayyyy thank you (: isn’t UCD one of the more lenient UC’s, especially when it comes to students who are heavily involved in community service, 1st gen & low income?

Like others have said
colleges must look at your entire application and not just one part.
i know people who got into UCLA with a 3.6 and was accepted probably because of her being 1st generation and her EC

That being said i also know a girl who had a 4.2 and got rejected because GPA doesnt show potential. Its the application as a whole that lets colleges know exactly how cut out you are for the rigor of the school

dont’get discouraged you have a shot at each of those colleges
