If applying to College of Arts and Sciences, is it the same chance to get into Cornell if someone applies for a more competitive major such as economics compared to a major like African-American or Hispanic studies? For example, is it a large hook if someone Asian applies to study African-American/Chicano studies since it is more “diverse” and interesting than if that person majored in Chinese culture? Heard from a fellow family member, not suggesting that I will do this but tell me what you guys think.
Technically everyone comes into CAS undeclared. Don’t try to game the system.
Honestly, it’s not worth ‘faking’ whether or not you’re a good fit for a college. It just hurts you in the end.
A top school like Cornell will vet your prep for the major(s) you claim interest in. No point declaring an interest in Hispanic studies if nothing in your record shows you were engaged in it, more than classes or Spanish honor society or some culture club.
You’ve got to try to understand what the colleges look for. It’s not just some “Here I am, take me.”
