Freshmen year I took all honors but by the end of the year I failed Geometry. I did a lot such as participating in Fairs, food drives, Christmas packaging, can drives , toy drives, fundraisers, petting zoo, thanksgiving organizations , raise money for cancer, volunteer at a prek, etc etc. Sophomore year was A NIGHTMARE. I took all Honors and 1 AP. I failed 1st semester Chem, 2nd semester Spanish 2, and had a D 1st semester AP World History. I worked my hardest to do well but I faced personal problems along the way and idk if colleges will overlook those grades if I explained my circumstances.I participated in Key Club, EcoFreaks, Cancer Awareness, and Open Mic(clubs). Over the summer I made up world history and worked for 8 hours in an Bengali Organization without breaks. Now I am a Junior with 3 APs and 1 Honors and a cumulative gpa of 2.6( OUCH!). I'm planning to volunteer at a Hospital, Library, Homeless Shelter, and join more clubs(EcoFreaks, Key Club, Japanese, and Cancer Awareness). I'm also planning to take Italian after school which is taught by a professor btw I'm currently retaking Spanish2. Do I still have a chance to be admitted into NYU, Boston, or even UC Santa Barbara? Please respond to this post.

Go to a college fair with your report card and show it to some admissions reps and get their take on your situation. High SATs may help? Also, is it a good idea to take Italian after school when you could be using that time to study so you don’t fail any more classes?

Stop with ECs and focus on your school work. Your ECs will not make up for your GPA.

Not likely to those school unless your family has means.

Less clubs, no Italian, no AP and Honors, and study hard to improve your GPA.

What is your PSAT?

Far too many ECs. Your grades and test scores will be what most schools look at first, not a laundry list of ECs.

Have you had a single semester where you’ve gotten good grades? It’s easier for schools to take personal issues into consideration if you can prove that you can get good grades most of the time.

What do your parents and counselors say? Do you know why you’re not doing well? Is the material too difficult or are you not doing your homework? Maybe you could use some help from tutors or a learning specialist.

Good luck.

so if i manage to get As and Bs with a lot of hard work will it make a difference? If i told you guys my reason as to why i got bad grades you guys would laugh (it has nothing to do w/relationships, I’ve never even had one and nor am I interested yet).

It looks to us like the reason for your bad grades is that you spend all your time doing ECs instead of studying. If there’s another issue, that’s all the more reason you should be paying attention to your schoolwork rather than being distracted with all that other stuff.

Drop the ECs and hit the books. That’s the only thing that’s going to improve your chances in the slightest.
