so here are my credentials:

i'm a junior and so far i have a 2.98 gpa. (i'll talk about that in a sec)

my choice colleges are
Northwestern (i don't know whati'll do if i don't get in here)
NYU
UNC
BU
NCSU
USC

i took act's last year and got a 23. i'm taking sat's this iyear, though.

ECs:
Altar served in church for 4 years
Volunteered at church to make kerchiefs and raise money for cancer patients
Head of set design for school's production of taming of the shrew
acted in school's production of You Can't Take It With You
acted in school's production of Kiss Me, Kate
I'm an official, card-holding member of the Thespian Society
latin club
co-president of Interact club to raise most money school ever has
had a job for 4 months before i had to move

and so far this year:
i moved from CT to NC
running for class VP (i probably won't win, but i might)
Member of french club
write for school newspaper
member of Student Government Association
i'm doing Model UN
going to volunteer at both an animal shelter and possibly a homeless shelter or hospital...oh and a local fair thing
i'm also gonna see how i'll go about mentoring kids
and i am planning on attending National High School Institute this summer at Northwestern for theater

now about my gpa: i realize it's incredibly low for my choices and i have no idea how i'm going to bring it up, because i know i've got to. i kick myself every day for not doing my best in freshman and sophomore years. i was wondering if colleges also look at improvement in addition to actual gpa. if they don't, i just don't kno what i'll do...

please, please respond. i need to know this right away. thank you all so much in advance

ur grades and test scores are a bit too low....im thinking of a state college...good EC's though

mm. do you think i'd be able to bring up my uw gpa this year?

so far i've been doing really well and i think i'll beable to keep it up. i'm getting like...mid A's. if i did keep it up, how high do you think that'd raise my gpa?

oh and do colleges look at grade improvement as well? you know, showing that i've started to take everything a little more seriously.

I'm really sorry, but I think it's too little too late. I mean the gpa is low, but the ACT is even lower. I think if you really have your heart set on one of these schools, go to a comm. coll or small state school, kick butt, and transfer in.

As of now,
Northwestern Astronomical Reach
NYU Astronomical Reach
UNC Since in-state, not sure. OOS would be high reach, so maybe low reach?
BU Very high reach
NCSU Match
USC High Match

just for future viewers...i probably won't submit my 23 act. i'm gonna bring it up or just submit my sats i take this year.

so grantorture...you're pretty much saying no way in hell i'll get into NU or NYU?...

well you cant completely rule someone out, but unless your SAT's are substantially higher, I think the odds are against you unless you have some affiliation with one of the schools or a major hook of somesort.

a hook is like if you are a legacy and your family has donated tons of $ to the school, or if you are a under-represented minority, or if you are in a low-income household, or if you have advanced the field in which you wish to study through research or innovation. Those are hooks.

well i'm mexican-american. and i plan to go to a summer camp this summer at northwestern for theater...which i'm planning to major for...so idk if that applies.
