hi ! im female and 17 years old and ive been struggling with this topic for a while. i really wanna get into rutgers and i would be in state. in freshman year i had a 3.2 gpa, sophomore year i had a 2.9. i went thru a lot of depression which led me to bad grades in sophmore year and the beggining of my junior year. in the second quarter i had around 2 D’s and mostly B’s and C’s, and in the first quarter i had mostly B’s and C’s and one D. right now i have two A’s and mostly B’s and C’s. ive been pushing myself so hard and i know colleges look for improvement but i seriously doubt my abilities of getting into rutgers. i havent taken the SAT yet but i take a rigorous SAT course and im going to be taking in june and august, hoping for around a 1200-1300. i have a lot of EC’s such as girl scouts, ive ran a blood drive, i teach at a religious school, i have a job, and im involved in two clubs. i dont know what to do but i really wanna get in, do i have a chance or am i wasting my time… please read and comment idk what to do
i mean i guess cus i know those are easier to get into but i really really wanna strive for the new brunswick one. also idk if this helps but i also have my own company and my own podcast if those count as outside of school things?? im really involved in my community and my ive never had lower than a C on my transcript
is there anything else that i can help sell myself with? like should i join other ECs or something? im honestly really really stressed and have been crying over this for a while now and i cant figure out what im supposed to do or what else i can do. i wanna major in psychology because im really good at it but idk…
Just because you "want" to get into a college doesn't mean it will happen. You need to be realistic in terms of your goals. The job of admissions is to accept people who have an academic record showing that they can be successful at the college.
If you are truly stressed and crying about this I suggest you seek out counseling immediately. Don't allow yourself to fall into another deep depression.
Have you considered Stockton or Rowan? Have you run the NPC for Rutgers? Can your family afford it? It’s not likely you’ll get merit money from Rutgers. Room and board is very expensive. Community college would be very affordable and all the cc’s have classes that transfer directly to most NJ colleges including many privates and all public.
If you are in a poor financial situation consider applying to the EOF program within Rutgers. The EOF program allows you to have a lower SAT score (such as 1100s) and lower GPA but still be admitted with your attendance of the EOF summer program to allow you to succeed in college at Rutgers. If you are not in a poor financial situation, consider applying to the EOP program which is similar to EOF except it is for the people who did poorly on SAT/ GPA but who are not necessarily financially disadvantaged. If you want more info on these programs, you can ask me, I have friends who attended these programs over the summer with subpar SAT scores and got some financial assistance and are now happily attending Rutgers
@waterisgraett so instead of applying through the normal program which is much more competitive, you would apply through a separate program called EOP. EOP program looks for the “potential” in students as opposed to their current stats. The program is free and includes a 6 week summer course that you must pass in order to attend rutgers in the fall, but my friends said that although it was strict they got to make a lot of friends. You basically get a taste of college a couple weeks earlier, you attend classes and get to live in one of the best housing on campus in the livi apartments (but you also have roommates and a lounge and a shared bathroom within your apartment). The program is basically to get you ready to attend college by having you attend preparatory classes for the harder classes that are only pass fail and giving you a lot of advising. I am not sure if EOP only applies to SOE or other schools have it but other schools definitely have EOF as well. https://catalogs.rutgers.edu/generated/nb-ug_0507/pg21124.html/
