Heres the story i had to miss 4 months of school this year for a medical reason.....Ruptured Spleen it almost killed me.......I have decide because i cant play sports for two years and by then ill be a senior and done with basketball,I am going to get my ged in June (Im16) then in September Start Adirondack Community College and after two years i want to be able to transfer to one of the schools on the list below. I"m worried my ged will hurt my chances of getting into one of these schools or me not have taking the sat or have a high school record.(For the record i had a 3.8 gpa in high school) I love NYU been there for two visits. But I don't think they would take a GED. Also will my credits transfer.I'm going to be taking mostly all gen requirements.I am ready to move on and get over high school but i just want to make sure i will have a good chance if i do the work i need to do and get a good gpa i will be accepted somewhere good. What are the stats i need for one of these schools. I will probable be majoring in Political Science or government.(i want to become a lawyer) Will a top 20 law school accept me if i have a really good high gpa and good law admissions test score with a ged?
Any help would be greatly apprenticed

hey man, i feel so sorry for you. but I love your passion!!

you will definitely get in to NYU with law admissions test score / high GPA.
just get back on your feet and keep working at it!

and even if you don't succeed, getting into your dream college won't matter as long as you become a lawyer in the end, right?

don't lose hope and go with the flow. definitely go to the community college and try your chances at transferring. Take the SAT if you can once you have recuperated.

I don't know about the Ivies/U Chicago/Northwestern with a GED; I don't think they'd accept you. But, you shouldn't give up anyway! Make the best of the opportunities you are given and you should prosper.

I really want to go to transfer to a top 30 school. I know i can prob get into any good law school with a good gpa and las school admissions test. My main question is will i be able to transfer to like Cornell or NYU after two years of community college. What would my gpa have to be.

Your best shot out of a community college is your state school, to be quite honest; despite your accomplishments at a CC, private colleges like NYU/Cornell will still place significant weight on your high school resume/transcript and, assuming you are not qualified for a top college in the first place, they will not choose to accept you out of a community college.

Well in high school i was on high high honor roll before i had to leave because of medical reasons....so wont they take that into account i had like 3.7
My tops schools to transfer to after two years are NYU or Cornell..I need to go to a good school so i can get into a good law school.I don't want to go to my state school.(Suny) Would i have a chance as a transfer to Fordham or Georgetown i would be a legacy at Georgetown.I just want to be able to get into a top law school so for that to happen usually they want you to be at a top university or college and i want to go to Cornell or Fordham.NYU is my dream school, i have visited it 3 times and i just love it. So what are my odds of being able to transfer to NYU or Cornell or Fordham....Lets say i have lik a 3.6 after two years of community college Do i have a shot?

i am surprised that you are assuming a 3.6
you should aim for a 4.0 and get it! don't let this experience get in your way! in fact, let it make you stronger..

i am a junior myself so I really don't know much about transferring yet.. but i am sure they will understand part of your situation.

what was your weighted gpa in high school?? if it's around 4.3ish you should be fine for NYU/ Cornell

Thats the thing I'm only 16 taking ged test in june going to community college for two years.I want to then transfer and go to NYU/Cornell or U Miami.I had like a 3.7 GPA no AP classes i was only a sophomore. Then i got sick about two months ago and I'm gonna go this path now. isn't a 4.0 like impossible. What is my magic numbers i need to get into any of my colleges on the list

yea thanks man. i am very smart after i ruptured my spleen i couldn't play basketball so i gave up and i wanna move on with my life and get started on college and my career which is....I want to be a lawyer. I really need people who have gotten into these schools like what there stats were and i know they all accept ged but i don't know anyone who has gotten in with a ged but My ged wont hurt me that much because i have two good years of community college.

Why don't you talk to an admissions officer at NYU now that their busy season is over. I think you would have a great shot- you had a true medical emergency. Also, NYU has program for people who are not quite ready- general studies or something like that. I don't even think they would put you there- I really think that they will not disrespect your GED. They might if you had just dropped out because you wanted to drop out, but not for medical reasons.

yea well i'm only 16 so my mom wants me to do community college because i'm not ready to go live off by myself so i want to be able to transfer.
Can anyone who has transfered to NYU post your stats

Which NYU college do you wish to transfer to fitzman? I got into Gallatin with a 3.7 HS GPA, and 4.0. college GPA. My ACT score was 27. I don't know if that will help.
