<p>Personally, I prefer the Princeton Review books in general. They tend to have good, thorough explanations. I believe there is a PR book that is just for the writing section (essay and multiple choice) of the SAT. I found the essay kind of difficult to practice for (unless time is your issue) since it’s not as straight forward as the multiple choice where you can look up the right answer…</p>
<p>I cannot recommend any SAT essay preparation books , but I think this is a lot better than what any SAT book offers , for the essay section anyway.

<p>barron and kaplan books are good for sat writing section.self explanatory and easy to understand.and if you like you can use critical reading and writing workbook.or 12 practise test for sat by kaplan i have used them personally</p>

<p>I like the Kaplan for writing multiple choice, but the overall I prefer the Princeton book. Has great math/essay/reading help. I did’nt really look at the writing mult. for Princeton though.</p>
<p>I took the SAT in October (anyone else think this was a hard test and got a bad score? Hoping it was curved to high and my scores will improve this time) and did great on my writing (45) but my essay brought me down (I panicked) and I got a 650. For anyone who doesnt know with a 45 I could have scored like 770 if I had a 12 on my essay :(.</p>
<p>The College Board blue book is the best, but I also have heard good things/ personally liked the Kaplan and Princeton books</p>

<p>However, I recommend The SAT Essay Formula as it’s the only book I know of whose suggestions are based on the research done at MIT on what it really takes to get a high SAT Essay score.</p>

<p>I used a combination of Princeton Review (which I think had some pretty good strategies for some of the math problems) and the Official Guide, mainly because I knew that one (PR) would actually profit off my doing well, but the College Board book would have the most realistic tests included.</p>

<p>The “Barron’s Writing Workbook” is the one I used and i personally think it’s good. However, it does take a longer time to work through compared to other books, so buy it only if you have sufficient time.</p>
<p>For Princeton Review books, they tend to have “confidence-building” in mind rather than actually teaching you new topics and information. So if you feel really nervous about the SAT even after studying, reading the Princeton review books anytime from 2 weeks to test day would help.</p>
<p>Content is very important. Most helpful advice about writing the SAT essay came from a New York Times article (article about a high-priced SAT/Admissions Counselor):</p>
