please recommend some books

^^did you just recommend philosophy as recreational reading?? Pascal was interesting but was hardly a breeze lol

Anything by David Sedaris! Also, take a look at some of the stuff Malcolm Gladwell has out there particularly if you have an interest in sociology or psychology. I recommend “Blink” which talks about our human intuition and decision making abilities.

‘Blink’ was recommended on this tv show I used to watch during the summer. It was under ‘books that make you look smart’ list. Alexa Chung: “You don’t even have to read it, just take it in your hand to a party and everyone will say who’s that genius, the cover is brilliant!”

lol I did an AP Stat project and used “Blink” (The Malcolm Gladwell book I assume) as a reference!

Ultimate Book that makes you look smart: Ulysses by James Joyce

haha Maple. It’s interesting stuff.

And when he gets to high school, chances are he’ll encounter some of Kant’s works in his history classes.

If you’re interested in math, those books on game theory/number theory/infinity/zero are pretty fun too.

Kant seemed pretty cool from what I’ve read about the Enlightenment in AP Euro, unlike Liebniz ( >:O )

^haha. Yea. I’m taking AP Euro right now.

Liebniz. Ugh :P

HAHAHAHA Kant is literally the most boring person in the world. I’d recommend him as a cure for insomnia, but then again, most of the people here need to live up to the (false) image they presented in their applications.

I’m not sure what your interests are, but I really enjoyed A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. It’s really interesting, and is one of the funniest nonficiton books I’ve read in a long time. I don’t have that much time in the day to read long stories, but if you’re into essays, I’m a huge fan of Chuck Klosterman and Jonathan Lethem.

If you’re trying to put people off with your obnoxiousness and desperation to impress, though, nothing beats printing out scientific studies from pubmed and reading those. Or Kant, I guess.

^Hey. It’s better than Rand.

Pascal=win. Bacon=too hard to read

“Ultimate Book that makes you look smart: Ulysses by James Joyce”, I should read this when I get a chance.

You really shouldn’t. It’s not his best work and you’ll just come off like you’re trying to hard. Read what you want because you enjoy it, not because it “makes you look smart”

you will need multiple chances, because it is very long lol

After reading A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, I had the urge to read Ulysses, but it was massive and I was too lazy.

It wiil make all the smaht kids jealous though

The Art of War is badass

The last few books that I have read have all been excellent:

The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao
The Known World
Never Let Me Go
The Brothers Karamazov

Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich
The Autobiography of Malcolm X

The Talented Ms. Highsmith-about the women who wrote the talented mr. ripley

AMAZING

or Into Thin Air…about climbing everest

I don’t think i dare to try kant even though he sounds mighty noble. but hey thanks so much guys. books are great!
