Topic: Should heroes be defined as people who say what they think when we ourselves lack the courage to say it?

The term “hero” comes from Ancient Greeks; for them, a hero was someone with juggernaut power, a rescue man, and one who chooses to risk his life in order to safe another’s. The nineteenth-century moralist’s view was that in general, if hero speaks out about his brevity or risk that he had, it means that he didn’t do anything. Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King clearly exemplifies that “real” hero must have “real” characteristics.

It was not until 1947 when India became a sovereign state. Before that British had been commanding there for more than two hundred year Raj period. Emerge of Mahatma Gandhi was watershed in this situation. He saved his hometown; he was an oracle, a speaker, and a protagonist. He told Indians to refuse to work for British people. Before that, Indians supplied them with rice, cotton, and in general words, all what they had. Gandhi hadn’t spoke out or reported about his heroically actions, but in the same time, he risked all he had, even life. Thus, from this example, one could conclude that real hero must show himself in actions, not in speech. If he made real undaunted actions or decisions, he would be an immortal hero, someone who is in peoples’ memory forever, like Mahatma Gandhi.

Furthermore, Martin Luther King is an example of another hero. He tried to recreate freedom, equal conditions of life for all races, democracy. Why we consider him as a hero? Because he sacrificed his life for citizens; many historians may consider that he spoke out to the public and that’s why he wasn’t a real hero; but, despite public controversies, he reported about problems in his hometown, not as many consider about his brevity or something like that. Thus, this example proves that a real hero is a undaunted personality, someone who takes care about others, not himself.

After careful analysis of Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther Kind, one could conclude that real hero is always in peoples’ memory. His actions are his speeches!

Topic: Is the way something seems to be not always the same as it actually is?

The way something seems to be is not always the same as it actually is. This notion is supported by several examples from art and literature.

The first Super Marination movie, “Thunderbirds”, was made in 1965, by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson. It depicts the story of the Tracy family, with Jeff Tracy, the head of it. They decided to help by rescuing people that are in trouble. This movie is divided into episodes. One of which is “Cry Wolf”. One boy in Australia, whose father worked in a weather station, made a prank call that he is in trouble. International Rescue (Tracy family) had a false impression of this call. They thought that this boy was really in trouble, but when they arrived to the danger zone, where that boy’s signal was coming from, they figured that it was a false call. Why had IR been mistaken? Because their first understanding was erroneous; The Research, made by Department of Sociology, states that 95% of wrong understanding and views in society are caused due to a shortage of information. In addition, ancient Russian folk wisdom states that first impression is always wrong. Thus, from this example about the false emergency call, one can conclude that our vision isn’t always representative of real events, and, in most cases it’s caused by limited information.

In novel 1995, by Russian immigrant, the author depicts story about one student in Czechoslovakian Republic, who was sure that he could prepare for any exam in one week; but when the exam preparation time came, he understood that the way is something seem to be always the same as it actually is. Modern critics made an analysis of his mistake; and figured out that the lack of comprehensive information causes this false view. The Student was misinformed about all tricks of exams and thought that he could easily extricate them, but it was only his first wrong view. Hence, this example about presumptuous student proves that everything isn’t as it seems.

After careful analysis of the two examples presented above, one could conclude that, in most cases, first vision is probably wrong and everything isn’t as it is in real world. To avoid such erroneous views, we must avoid being presumptuous and think carefully about every action that we make.

Thanks!

any one? Please…

“he reported about problems” ?

and

“many historians may consider that he spoke out to the public and that’s why he wasn’t a real hero” <– don’t really understand what you’re trying to say here

and

“one can conclude”

just skimmed it

those were the things that caught my eye

would give this one a 5 or a 6

work on your grammar

try to be more clear

Yeah, I know.

Your first essay resembles mine… Glad I helped!

your score?

Good essays. I’d probably give a 5 out of 6. But then, who am I to judge?? From all the advice I’ve been reading on the CB online course and in many, many books, I think that you should state your position more clearly in your introduction. The post I found most helpful on writing essays was this one : http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/669275-tips-how-reach-750-critical-reading.html

It’s really great and will help you a great deal I think!!! At least, it helped me!!

But keep up the great work! If you manage to write the same essay on test day, in 25 minutes and all, I’m sure there’s a good chance you get higher than a 10!!

Best of luck!!!

Oh, thanks. But my job is to get 6/12 on the test day.=)

It shouldn’t be much of a problem if you manage to write the same essays in 25 min!!! I just said “over 10” because I don’t want to guarantee that no matter what, you’ll get a 12 on test day!! But if you had written those essays on a real test, you would’ve gotten a 12 I believe!!!

hahahah it’s too optimistic!

Just be confident that you’ll do an outstanding job and you will!!! That part is really crucial because if you convince yourself that your essay’s not good, that’s the best way to fail your whole test!! ;-)
