Please settle a debate DH and I are having over how useful having a "talent"is in admissions.

This has been a fabulous thread. My D19 is in the highest level at a company ballet school. She studies ballet 6 days per week downtown and she too states she is done when she gets to college. What was interesting on our college tours last week is that she asked two schools if their dance floors had Marley. Kenyon’s did and that is high on her list. I chuckled and said never say never.

@Pelotonridermom Ha! Since I last started this thread my D has said that she might be open to dancing in college. She recently was in a performance and was saying how much she loves it. At this age, I realize things can change week to week.

Keep in mind that an activity that was done very seriously in HS can be continued in a lower-key format in college and later in life. In HS my D was an serious violin player, (took private lessons from a Julliard grad, traveled overseas with the orchestra, was assistant concertmaster etc.) In college she chose to switch to second violin – basically she wanted to just show up at the one rehearsal/week and play her part easily and well. She enjoyed being part of the college orchestra and found it to be a no-stress outlet from her studies/research work (of course it helped that the orchestra conductor was lovely). She hasn’t played violin while in grad school as the workload has been very heavy but has already mentioned that she would like to find a nice low key outlet to play again once she finishes her masters degree. So you never know…
