I got accepted into Michigan State. My mom wants me to go to Michigan State or Northern Illinois just to be to get loans and everything in case something happens. She wants me to stay at the college for four years. However, I don't really like or care for Michigan State or Northern Illinois. Michigan State has 75% acceptance rate. Indiana U, the college I want to go to has an 80% acceptance rate. I want to go to community college or Northern Illinois (instate) for a year then transfer to Indiana. Will I get screwed financially if I transfer to Indiana year2 (w/ loans, scholarships etc.)?? I have this negative gut feeling that I won't fit in with Michigan State

I believe you might screwed over in the financial aid department. At a lot of schools whether transfers need financial aid or not, can sometimes play a significant role. I’m pretty sure freshmen always get the best financial aid packages at any school. But you can’t quote me on that.

And what type of person are you. Do you drink? Do you like parties? Do you like to socialize? If so Michigan State is the place for you. If you don’t Michigan State still might be the place for you. I’m currently a freshmen at MSU, and you can’t really group all the students into one group as its a pretty large school. But I have met very few students who don’t drink, and most are satisfied with just getting drunk, and going to parties every weekend. While thats okay, if thats not your thing you will have to search harder for friends that like to be involved in other things such as going to the movies, or planning other things like that.

While I am looking to transfer out of the school, it isn’t necessarily because I don’t like the school (though I’m not in love with it either). I’m want to transfer because I want to go to a school that is stronger in my major. I do like MSU, for its size (though it can be annoying getting to class), and for Grand River (a street with a lot of stores), and the variety of things to do on campus (though many people as said before drink instead of getting involved in them). Most of all I like my friends here, which is the primary reason why I might still stay here. With there being such a large student population, there are tons of different people here, and if you look hard enough, you will find your niche.

You can PM me if you want to know more about the school.
