Please suggest a few schools...

I'm a Spring (limits my choices a bit there) CC transfer student with a 3.9 GPA and 1470 SAT. What do you think of this list and could you please recommend a few (safety) schools? I'd like to stay in the same general geographic areas I've got here.

Reach:
Cornell
Northwestern
WUSTL

Match:
Rice (reach)
Vassar
Tufts

Safety:
U of Miami - which I live right next to(match)
Tulane

If you need them, more stats can be seen in my recent thread in the transfer forum.

Vassar needs to go on your reach list. Their transfer admit rate is less than 19%. You might actually have an easier time getting accepted to Cornell's CAS than Vassar.

You need to keep in mind that transfer admissions are totally different from freshman admissions, so schools that might've been safety schools as a freshman can now be near-impossible reaches, and vice versa.

beginning, I was snooping through your posts - can you explain more about Bates college not liking credits from CC's?

From the Bates College Transfer Credit Policy (<a href="http://www.bates.edu/x34721.xml%5B/url%5D):">http://www.bates.edu/x34721.xml):</a></p>

"Credit must be earned at a four-year, regionally accredited institution; however, courses earned in an accredited community or junior college or any non-traditional setting may be transferable with approval of the department or program and the Committee on Academic Standing; matriculated Bates students must obtain these approvals prior to enrolling in the course(s)."

That's the "official" word. The unofficial word is they really don't like taking CC students, give crummy transfer credit (history department being the worst), and will make you jump through far more hoops than others in order to be accepted. It is literally one of the hardest schools in the country to transfer into, and your interview (it's evaluative and graded) can often be the most important part of the process for transfer applicants.

It's tough, but I'm not intimidated. :) Interestingly enough, most LACs give special preference to CC students, but Bates just doesn't like us for some reason. Oh well.
