These schools that have been suggested may not be known internationally but they are very well known and highly regarded by graduate programs and top employers in the US as places where top students attend and graduate. Look into them on the internet – watch youtube videos – and read reviews.
They are smaller and focus on teaching. They provide a lot of support and opportunities for students. Many are top feeders per capita to PhD programs.
Grinnell is 17% international with goal of 20% in a few years. It has a huge endowment and amazing resources.
My D was a top student who graduated last year and she got into Grinnell (with merit aid) and Carleton and was excited to have those great options!. They are both remote (esp. Grinnell) and cold winters but are really great options. Similar college with warmer weather that also meets 100% of need for international students is Davidson. Not sure how high profile they are in physics but you should check out as well.
You should definitely continue your research. With a well crafted and suitably directed application you may have a reasonable chance at some excellent colleges. Grinnell, as mentioned, is both well-funded and particularly receptive to international applicants. As a quick indicator of quality, you will notice that Grinnell enrolls a student body with a statistical profile similar in range to those of the schools you initially mentioned.
But since you would be asking for financial aid there is no commitment; if enough aid is not offered, you decline the offer. No school would try to force anyone to attend who couldn’t afford it.
Btw how am I supposed to pay my travel costs to US? They seem to be like 6k a flight from where I live. How am I supposed to handle those costs?
What other costs will I encounter living in US as a student? Like Medical Insurance etc?
I request you to please give me a rough estimate of the total money that will be spent for an undergrad degree (food, clothing, other expenses)? I shall be obliged for that.

Some of these may be safety/match schools for your qualifications (although it’s hard to tell for the combination of international student + merit scholarships).
For what it’s worth, the University of Alabama seems to be the highest-ranked of these schools.
This may not be a complete and up-to-date list.
From time to time, CC posters update/supplement it.
For any listed colleges that interest you, be sure to verify that the scholarships are open to international students.
As for reach/match schools, I suggest you focus on colleges that claim to meet 100% of demonstrated financial need … but not too much on the 20 or so research universities with the highest US News rankings, including the 8 Ivies (because competition may be too intense). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Need-blind_admission
International is a very broad term. Which region of the World do you come from? Overrepresented (Asia) or underrepresented (Africa and Europe)?
As for universities, definitely look for universities and colleges that offer generous aid to international students. Amherst, MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Yale all come to mind. If you are admitted into any of those institutions, they will most likely cover all your costs. I hope this helps.
Overrepresented×2 ( India, Asia).
Is there any chance for me at the Ivies? I know tge competiton. I know how many kids are fighting for one slot. But, is there any hope?
Due to some changes in circumstances no longer need financial aid. It might sound wild buit its true. My relatives are ready to fully fund my studies.
What are my chances now?
Many colleges apparently don’t publish separate admission rates for international students, let alone for specific countries or regions. MIT seems to be an exception. For the class of 2022, MIT’s overall admit rate was 6.7%; its international student admit rate was only 2.4% (about 1/3 the overall rate). https://mitadmissions.org/apply/process/stats/
Princeton’s overall admit rate for the class of 2022 was 5.5%. If you divide that by 3, then its international admit rate would be about 1.8%. Maybe lower for India and China. Princeton is need-blind for international students, so in theory at least, being full pay may not help you get into Princeton.
So, finally based on my stas and not needing financial aid, which schools will you guys suggest? Sorry for repeating this question over and over. But I need to show my parents a full and final list and I’m unable to decide on my own.
They have set a minimum bar. Atleast one of the colleges must be prestigious (sucks, but you know, Asian parents). So, can you guys give me a final list of colleges I can apply to? Please kindly divide them into Match, Reach and Safety! Thanks for your patience!
