SCU is a great suggestion; she might also look into San Jose State. I’m drawing a blank right now, but she’ll have lots of great options with those scores.

Yep, SCU (I know similar stats have also gotten approx 9-10K/year merit aid) and consider University of Washington. I think they have a top bioengineering program if you are comfortable with a largish state university.

UC Davis as already mentioned, UCSB, and depending on how her UC GPA calculates out, UC San Diego. All are very strong in bioengineering. Harvey Mudd is a reach, but if she gets her SAT’s up a little (and/or nails the ACT), it’s worth a look. I talked to some students there who were doing very interesting things in bioengineering.

Further to my comment about Cal Lutheran, see attached. If she can’t get accepted to the four UC’s mentioned for Bioengineering, but her SAT is good enough to get her into some more limited-demand major, possibly she can flip that to CLU, attend the private school at the UC price, and get a bioengineering major to boot.

Thank you all so much for your great suggestions!

If I calculate 10th and 11th with 8 semesters weighted (think that’s how UCs calculate), she has a ~3.5 GPA (if she keeps with the current trend she is at …).

UCD is great for bio, but was a tougher admit last year. Students at D1’s school usually had Davis as a safety, and there were a lot of very surprised kids and adults when rejections came. Check with your own school’s GC to see how students with your D’s stats did with these UCs.

qialah, that’s really really scary! UCSC is still a safety for kids at both D1 and D2’s schools, which just reiterates to me that it’s important to see how students at your own child’s school did with admissions last year.

UCD denied my daughter with a 4.01 UC gpa and an 1850 math/CR ( I know test scores not fabulous) and I don’t remember her SAT2 but they totaled close to 1300. She had applied as an animal science major. Anyway applying to eng. is going to be competitive and I wanted to give a reality check.
