Please suggest good apartments near ASU

Four of us would be landing in Tempe in August 1 week and we would like to rent 2 apartments/condos…

I’ve visited many websites and I’m pretty impressed with the choices available.
Can someone suggest some good places (good facilities & safe) to live nearby ASU Tempe campus?

any first hand info on ASU Apartments (availability/satisfaction) would be appreciated.
Any links to any good deals/websites are welcome…

Have you checked out the Towers?

It's run by res life at ASU, but it's made to be apartment-style living. I'm sure a search from the ASU website will get you there.

My sister, now a senior at ASU, stayed at Lakeview Apartments (I think) on baseline and rural. She loved the apartment itself, but hated the location...lots of driving. She just moved to a new apartment right near Mill Avenue, I really don't have that much info...sorry.

My suggestion is choose someplace very close to campus -- biking or rollerblading distance. Traffic in the area is hideous and even the 'shortest' commute can take forever with all of the road work going on. There are some very nice apartments within a mile of campus. They may not be as luxurious as those further out, and they may be more expensive becasue they are near campus, but they are a better bet. I do recall one very luxurious one being advertised near campus, you should google apartments near ASU and also check with the housing office for lists of off campus housing complexes.

I found out my sister's old apartment building name.

CityScape Apartments on Baseline.

Even with apartments away from campus, there is a nice bus service (that my sister used because the apartments were a bit far...not too bad though) that takes you directly to campus. No worries about driving or parking or anything. If you find a nice apartment away from campus, definitely look for that bus service. (It's either the Flash or just the city bus)

Thanks christalena2 & lalady!!
I will inquire about these apartments as soon as I land in Tempe..

Hello to everyone!! I'm an international applicant and I got my admit from UFL last Friday for MS in ECE!!

I've secured 5 admits, my best admits being ASU and UFL ($11K achievement award) for MS in ECE for Fall '07. I plan to do VLSI related courses (preferably Digital VLSI). As of now i have no inclination to do my PhD..Its too early now to decide I think..

Since many of you are currently in ASU I would like to get inputs from you, so that I can decide which university to attend. First hand info is valuable and welcome!!

I had few specific doubts about these 2 univs::

--> Job/internship opportunities in EE (esp VLSI related) in ASU vs Florida.
UF is not in a very good location. Is that going to affect my job prospects?
Phoenix has few semiconductor companies + close proximity to California.
--> As of now I'm more inclined towards joining ASU because of the reasons mentioned earlier.

In your opinion - Is this the right thing to do? Please advice!

Hope I haven't bombed you with a lot of questions!! Looking forward to replies!!

I can’t say much about UF but you are correct about Arizona having some semi-conductor and tech companies (I’m an undergrad EE student). At ASU the EE department has the highest research expenditures of any engineering department in the university and has more grad students than undergrad students (something I see as an indicator that there is a heavy research focus in the deparment). You should also know that ASU’s Center for Solid State Electronics Cleanroom is one of 10 or so NNIN ‘hubs’ (basically meaning that ASU has a good cleanroom). The limited faculty I have had the opportunity to interact with as an undergrad first year student all have seemed interested in my personal academic success and are passionate about their field, I am sure this passion would be even more apparent at the graduate level.

Hope this info helps…
