Please tell me about some great schools where the COA is under $35,000 a year

Re: WVU and Pittsburgh airport - not sure which would be cheaper, flying into Morgantown or Pittsburgh, but WVU is about 60 driving miles from the Pittsburgh airport.

Also Shepherd U in WV. It’s about 23K/year OOS. About 4000 students and known for music, art, education and nursing. It’s on the Potomac river (and the MD border), near the Appalachian Trail, also near Harper’s Ferry and Sharpsburg (Antietam) and is in a beautiful, somewhat touristy town known for it’s theater (and good restaurants).

SUNY Binghamton is a great idea.

I always suggest Bemidji State for people looking for inexpensive out of state options but I know you have to REALLY love cold, snow, and winter sports to go appreciate Bemidji State. It is not for everyone.

University of Minnesota Morris, the public liberal arts school of Minnesota, would appeal to many more people than Bemidji State. The weather is warmer and the price is right. If you are accepted to U M Morris (“an intentionally small, residential, liberal arts university”) and have not visited yet, they will pay much of the cost for your visit. Add it to the list. http://www.morris.umn.edu/financialaid/forms/0910costsheet.pdf</a> Seriously!

Humboldt State is in a beautiful area. Not urban by any stretch of the imagination, but it is in a city. On the Pacific. In the redwoods. Not easy to get to, though.

I would highly recommend Elon. It is a really great school in a dynamic area of NC. Sister-in-law is a prof there so I am a little biased.

It is true that many male students at BYU leave for a two year mission after their freshman year. My daughter has kept in touch with the male friends she made freshman year through letters , and really has made many new friends sophmore and junior year, especially now that she is in her major classes so much. I guess that might be a down side to someone looking at BYU , but I still believe its advantages outweigh the negatives. Look at the website BYU.edu and if you ever get the chance, visit the campus. They have everything you could ever want --art galleries, museums, etc. My daughter is in acoustical physics and she says the lab she works in is unbelievable. Everything is top notch and has prepared her for grad school. She is taking the GRE in Fall and feels totally prepared.

You have to be open minded—and tolerant of others beliefs there as you will be different , but the students are extremely friendly and despite what I know everyone will tell you very accepting of non-lds.
As i said, my d says it is the best kept seccret in the country and worth many times over what we pay. The tuition (even non-member tuition)is subsidized by the LDS church to keep education affordable for all.

ps --there are also merit scholarships available for full and part tuition. You probably wont get much need based unless you have a very low efc-tuition is so low that many people dont qualify for need based.
