<p>Hi, I'm a senior and I'm really struggling to find out how I can better myself to get into UCLA. I want to major in biology and enter the science program that leads into a great medical career ahead of me. Particularly for cardiology.
So far:
I am ranked 31 out of 886 members in Granada High.
I have about a 4.2 Weighted GPA and a 3.84 unweighted GPA.
I have volunteered at Kaiser Permanente Hospital since summer of sophomore till now.
I founded Next Generation Boosters Club which helps students get information about colleges, scholarship opportunities, extracurricular experience. We also provide academic tutoring and our experience within various subjects of our high school courses. I'm President of this club. (Senior Year)
I also founded and am the President of the Philosophy Club at my school.(Senior Year)
I also was involved in the Young Medical Discoverers Group of America for 3 years and am the current Treasurer of the Club.
I was involved in our Highlander Marching Band and Wind and Percussion Band for 3 years. Currently I'm now in the Jazz Band (1st chair)
*Band took A LOT of my time(nearly 40 hours a week) so it was hard to do anything else, so I tried to do more stuff in senior year.
I got 5 in AP Bio, 5 in AP Environmental Science, 3 in AP World History.
Currently taking AP Calculus BC, AP Macroeconomics, AP Music Theory, AP Government, AP Computer Science.
I completed every single science course except Physics, but am planning to take it during the summer.
I also write and draw on the side. I have entered into various writing contests which are still pending.
For ACT I got 29 but am planning to take it again.
For SAT I'm planning to take this October it and hopefully get 2150.
SAT II's I got 770 in Korean. I got 720 in Biology, but planning to retake. 620 for Math Level II also planning to retake. Unfortunately 540 in World History.
I'm Korean.</p>
<p>How are my chances of getting accepted into this school?</p>
<p>THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I thought I was lacking in a lot of extra stuff, now I can focus on SAT's and get that 2150 and UCLA here I come.
Hope to see all you great people there! haha XD</p>
<p>Come on. UCLA students, who's better lol
plus I think all people are just great in some particular way.
I prefer to look towards optimism.
Oh and Do you have any other good suggestions/advice for UCLA?</p>
<p>yeah, I think what it really comes down to in the end is your essay. Sure having a good GPA and SAT is great.. but your true personality is usually shown in your essays.. EX: my friend had same statas as me-- 4.0+ gpa, etc, and she didn't get in.. have a lot of ppl read over your essay.</p>
<p>I'm not completely sure if I would join the marching band if I go to UCLA, but I will consider it. I heard the UCLA band perform at one of our competitions and it was pretty amazing. I was in the way top of the audience and I still heard the band as if they had loud amplifiers on them.
I play the alto saxophone.
Are you currently in the UCLA marching band?</p>
<p>The personal statements do matter a lot, though I never believed in them.
Your stats are a match, though!
You might want to reconsider retaking both the ACT and SAT. You only need one, and I would recommend SAT - to help you focus your energy on one thing.</p>
<p>wow i had like almost ur same stats, including the volunteering at kaister permanente o0. but with my 4.2 weighted, i was ranked like 70sumting in my class haha like ^ said, ur essays matter a lot, i think that my essays were what got me in tbh.</p>
<p>To gmargos: haha it's a small world. Hopefully I will get into UCLA and share even more similar traits to you haha =]</p>
<p>To SSfren: About what range do you think I would need on SAT or ACT to get accepted safely into UCLA?</p>
<p>btw, thanks to all. I'll be sure to work on my essays. Oh and I'm a bit concerned with the second part of the UC essay </p>
<p>"Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. <p>I really think it will be pointless to just list what I have done throughout my high school years. I'm thinking about relating the things I did with my passion for becoming a great doctor and also telling them how I've changed throughout my development. But I feel it is a bit cliche, yet it seems necessary. Any suggestions or critiques?</p>
