I was recently denied admission to my first choice school, which is the University of Georgia. Is there anything I can do? If anyone knows of anything u can do to be apart of the freshman class of 2009 (meaning anything besides transferring), please please let me know! Thanks.

I have heard where some students can attend a small Georgia college and transfer in January. All of this would need to be worked out with some help from your hs college counselor. My daughter has a friend who went to another state univ and did not like it at all. UGA let her transfer over in January. Make an appt at the UGA admission office. I just don't know if they can do anything.

From what I have heard, if you have been denied EA, there is not really any other steps to take except for the transfer option. It is not what you want to hear, but the reality is that, with the deferred and RD applicants still to be looked at for admission, your admission as a freshman is not in the cards. As well, unless a student is offered spring admission (I head the number was about 300 students last year), transferring in only happens after 30 completed hours at another college, which would mean at the earliest Fall 2009. I would suggest calling in to speak to admissions about transferring, and focus on your plan B college.

Were you deferred for Early Action admission or rejected for admission?

Rejected means you are out and have to go the transfer route (with good/great grades).

Deferred means you still have a chance for regular decision.

Generally only very highly qualified applicants are offered early action admission. These people have much higher SAT's and GPA's than the "average" UGA student.

Todays UGA is not your parents or grandparents UGA. Georgia Southern, West Georgia and Valdosta State are equivalent to UGA 20 to 30 years ago. UGA has become a major national research university. It is hard to qualify for admission.

Good luck to you.
