MIT & Caltech & Stanford are major reaches. Cornell, UCB, UCLA are reasonable reaches. However you are competitve, and have a chance at being accepted at any of these given schools.

I am not that familiar w/ TOEFL but that score seems extremely high...if it helps out your 660 verbal, that would be great. Now I don't know how your scores are looked at as an int'l but it is still very rare for a student to be accepted at MIT, Caltech, Stanford w/ a 660 verbal (yes, even at these tech schools). If there's any way to get the verbal up, this will help you considerably. Another note: you might need to take the New SAT w/ writing since you did not take the old SAT II writing.

Nevertheless, stats are solid, and you are competitive.

The main weakness I see is in your extracurriculars, which seem to lack leadership and accomplishment. HOWEVER, if the math contests you won in your province are major, I will eat my words and you are a phenomenal candidate. Otherwise, you have a good shot but nothing to make you a major stand-out applicant.

If you have leadership roles / awards in these activities that you left unmentioned that will help your chances considerably.

thank you stambliark and flopsy for your kindness.
about leadership, I have only an award presented by Congressional Youth Leadership Council.
by the way, If I take new sat on Oct. and get a M790/CR720/W740(assumptive) , what is my chance?

LF61, what you need to realize is that tons of asian kids apply to the top colleges every year. The are grouped together and compete against each other for the few slots given to asian international students. Many, many have 800/800/800/800/800. It almost seems that all have 800 in math. The thing is, your chances are much better if you apply to schools that all the others are not applying to. There are tons of great schools, but every international seems to pick the same ones you have.

So you are applying as an international student? I would say Cornell and UCLA should be pretty easy. There're a TON of Asians at UCB, so you'll be competing against a lot of your fellow Asian brothers (like me :) )

no way, Cornell and UCBerkely are not matches for anyone. Your SAT scores fall towards the average, and you do have a solid GPA. Reasonable reaches for Cornell and UCB
