Please tell me my chances at RD1

I go to a very prestigious, small, private school, so no class rankings as the top 10% would be 7 people. I am out of state (South Carolina).

GPA: 2.9/4.0 (Weighted, I know it sucks)
SAT: 1230
Classes:
Spanish 1-3, French 1-2, Algebra I, II, III & Trig, Geometry, Precalculus, Intro to AP Chem, Intro to AP Bio and Intro to AP Physics, AP US History, AP Computer, AP Physics, English I, II, III, IV, Ancient History, and Modern European History.

My school's whole curriculum is college prep. I do have about 12 ECs including lead in the high school drama, I have two years on Varsity Swimming and an appointment to the Youth In Government leadership conference. I wrote a really great essay on my app about taking care of my mom after she was diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis).

Low chance of getting in. Your SATs are below the competitive average, as well as your GPA.

Your GPA is low, and your Out-of-state. But I still think you have a slim chance.

Here is UF's 2006 FTIC statistics:

High School GPA of 3.9 - 4.4
SAT of 1220 - 1390
ACT of 26 - 31

http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/frprofile.html

Going by the freshman profile page, I fit in pretty well with the exception of the GPA. The SAT score and number of classes that I have are a big help.

You are OOS though, and the caliber of OOS students accepted is a lot higher than the average student at UF. It is a state university and its first obligation is to cater to in-state students.

My friend with a 1280 w/ a full IB diploma got rejected with a 4.4 recalculated GPA. And I know someone with a 1390 who got rejected. Unless your SAT scores are 1400+, your GPA will hurt you badly. I had an 1180 with a 4.4 W GPa and got accepted. I consider myself very lucky.

since ur out of state u need to be more compettive that instate students. Your gpa is really low compared to ur sat score. UR sat is fine . Ur chances are low but nevertheless u should def. apply.
with uf it is all on chance. Good luck.

Yeah my situtation was just like Lansing's and I'm very thankful I got in. I suggest you up that GPA and try to get a ridiculously high SAT/ACT score if you can.

Well all my numbers are in as they are. No more chances to take the SAT or send in any more grades. It says on their freshman profile they accept people with my numbers. Why couldn't one of those people be me?

i would not think that way. i felt the same way and i was rejected sadly yes!
i had a much higher gpa than you...ur sats are higher and your rank is better however, my graduationg class is quite large. I would have back up schools just because uf is extrmely unpredicable...esp. with the national Champ. many more people are going to apply etc. etc. The things, although i dont want to say it is true. i know someone who got in last yr with a c average, she's not very wealthy, and went to a really bad school like a d or f school. AND SHE WAS ACCPETED. CIRCUMSTANCES SUCH AS THIS, IF THEY ARE INCLUDED IN YOUR APPLICATION WOULD GET YOU IN. EX. FINANCIAL NEED, FIRST ONE TO GO TO COLLEGE, FACING ADVERSITY. ETC ETC.
GOOD LUCK

yea I'm kind of in the same boat, 2.8/1340

I also sent in a letter of recomendation written for me after I did two summers internship in the Heart and Vascular Center of the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) I also worked 3 summers as a Lifeguard and swim lesson instructor. Hope those ECs/Exp add to my chances.

They do, but they wont completely overshadow your low GPA. Just keep your fingers crossed. UF counts GPA more than SAT though....remember that. They would rather have a perfect 4.0 and a 1000 SAT then a 1400 with a 2.0. I know from experience. My friend got accepted with a 4.5/1050, sister 4.7/1090, friend 4.6/1010. I know 3 people with 1300s and above who got rejected because of their gpa, and theyre instate.

I have the same exact GPA and SAT scores, and I got in ED.

Same as me? What were your ECs like compared to mine?

I just checked through your past posts to see if you asked for chances with your stats available and you posted somewhere that you got a 1340. Which one is it? Please don't give me false hope.

Full list of ECs.

Two years delegate attorney to the South Carolina YMCA Youth-In-Government (YIG) Conference

Two years upper school performance choir

Porter-Gaud upper school drama – including lead role in William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” and roles in “West Side Story,” and “You Can’t Take It With You.”

Two year volunteer internship in the Medical University of South Carolina’s (MUSC) Heart & Vascular Center

Twelve years Parkshore Pool Swim Team

Three years Porter-Gaud Swim Team – Varsity Letter

Two years Porter-Gaud Track & Field

Red Cross Certification in First Aid, CPR, Lifeguard Rescues, and Water Safety Instructor

Pink House Volunteer – tutoring underprivileged children after school

Bishop-Gadsden Nursing Home – visiting with elderly patients

Three years work experience as a Lifeguard and Swim Lesson Instructor

I did get a 1340 (M620, V720, W780). My GPA unweighted is a 2.8, weighted I have a 4.2. My ECs center around verbal/writing activities: I'm the Editor-In-Chief of my school's Literary Magazine, I was identified as being verbally gifted by the Duke University TIP, I'm a yearbook editor, etc. I did my community service at a local library (though when I submitted my application 0 were documented). I also did French competitions (placed in States) and was a member of the FHS. My essay was pretty good and I had good recs. I should also add, however, that I'm a first generation college student and that my native language is Spanish, which probably makes me stand out than the average student.

Ah well you obviously have me beat. Congrats on getting in, but it doesn't help me.

Bump Bump Bump
