Please tell me my chances at RD1

Maybe you have a chance, I mean, I got rejected ED 3.4 gpa but..25 ACT. What makes me confused is I went from being a total dumbass my freshman year with a 2.7 or 2.8 to bringing it up so far and so fast. I had 4 excellent, I mean EXCELLENT teacher recommendations..and I have gotten regional, county, and state recognition from art shows in Florida, and maybe the fact I am part asian hurt my chances. Good luck nonetheless.

my friend had a 930 SAT, and a 4.4 GPA. That was his first time taking the SAT though. He also was ranked in top 5% and had 13 AP courses. he got accepted.

supposedly SAT score only counts for 10% of the admission decision while GPA holds the most weighting at around 50%

ok from what i know of hearing/ going through the entire process
lets say you have a low gpa but a really high sat score to ack it up with great ecs and recs and the entire package ...you could stand a shot

the other extreme could be that you have an amazing Gpa but your sat score doesnt measure up and u still have decents ECS and Recs.

What it really comes down to....is that its VERY UNPREDICTIABLE.
my friend didnt get in with a 1350 , goood GPA, GOOD rank. So it's really hard to tell. But the 10% weight to sats does apply according to them.

IMO
You have to remember that it's your personal essay, EC's, and the person you are that gets you in, not the grades.

If you have decent grades and SAT but have an excellent application, you have a good chance. The grades and SAT qualify you, your application gets you in.

I was average on both, 3.7-3.8w gpa, and 1270 sat. I know people 1200, 3.6w that got in. You have to show them what makes you special and why they should pick you. I think being in IB really helps though.

If you look at it that way, it is not unpredictable at all.

My son did not get in (he applied ED) in spite of SAT of 1420 (750 verbal, 670 math) and nine AP classes. His unweighted gpa was 3.56, weighted 3.85. Currently, the average GPA for entering freshmen is above 4.0, and 90% of students have SATs above 1350.

Nevertheless, we know a couple of people who got in with stats that were not as good as his. So you can't really tell until you get that letter -- good luck to all!

90% have over a 1350??????

The freshman profile on their site says they admitted close to 3000 with under a 1200. which would make it so about 70% have over a 1200, which out of that (a guess) half have over a 1350.

That would bring the SAT admissions closer to 35% have over a 1350, which is quite different than 90%.

If you know that number for sure then I'm screwed.

that's false orchid.....roughly 50% have 1350 and above....

Both numbers are different than 90%. That's all I care about. As I said the 35% was a guess.

not even 50% have above 1350...the approximate mean score was 1310

Glad to hear there are better looking numbers out there. I got mine from someone in the admissions office who is looking at applications for this fall. So maybe those are just preliminary numbers. They also said it is much harder to get in ED at UF -- they hold the ED students to a higher standard. Which kind of stinks.

We also know of lots of students who got in with worse stats -- but overall, President Machen of UF is working towards making UF a "public Ivy", so standards are likely to continue to go higher. (see Dec. 20 NY Times article -- here is the link: http://select.nytimes.com/search/restricted/article?res=F30813FF3B550C738EDDAB0994DE404482 )

There are always exceptions, though.
