additional: a brother who is in the top 1% of his class there, and has been accepted to grad school at uw too (probably not relevant to my application), successfully passing an AP test as a sophomore (AP European History, does this even show up on the application???).

I know my grade trend is not in my favor. However, I had an extreme back injury during my jr year and I wrote my essay about how my physical therapist told me I had the tightest back muscles he had ever seen (true story) and how I worked extremely hard to become one of the four strongest kids on the football team (also true). I've heard its alot harder to get into UW this year as opposed to last year due to the amount of applicants. Someone please tell me my chances of getting in and when I should hear back the University. Also, one last thing. My major interest was history/philosophy even though I have no idea what I want to do yet. Does the major you list have any affect on your chances of getting in? Thanks for reading!

Hard to tell...thats why no responses yet. My guess is that if they like the essays and can relate them to your grade trend, then you have a chance. Your gpa is too low for outward look/acceptance. If the kids from your school that are accepted tend to trend like your scores, then you have less to worry about. If you are below them, then probably not unless the essays make a difference (and they can since UW is now holistic).
Sorry, not much help.

JMHO, I think that you'll get in ok. The only issue would be if they are really waitlisting 2,200 kids who they would otherwise accept while waiting for the state to finish the budget, then you might be there.

the selection of major doesn't matter and doesn't affect your admission process.
I've called UW admission office and asked them, also I asked the admission officer when he came to our school, they both said it doesn't matter.

are u in state?

if you are in state , i think you will have not huge, but good chance to get in.
your GPA and SAT arent' that high, but you took many ap classes and
have ECs too.

if your essay is strong (i think the essay topic is good, if you wrote them as not boring essay then it ll be good!) then in my opinion, you will have chance :)

good luck! i think uw will send another acceptence letter round soon.
so wish you the best luck :)

To the three of you that replied, thanks for taking the time. I forgot this site even existed…but anyways, I ended up getting in to the UW and am now majoring in economics with a minor and deciding whethere I should double major in Econ/Math. Thanks again!

My husband had a GPA similiar to yours - I think even a little lower actually. He was kicked out of one highschool for insulting a teacher and finished a year late at another highschool.

But he wrote an excellent essay and got in. This is before the UW’s new “holistic” approach. He irritated quite a few fellow students who had better academic resumes, yet didn’t get in.

My point? When your grades don’t gaurentee you a spot, the essay can make all the difference. Start it well in advance (think months, not weeks) and seek feedback from teachers and/or mentors.
