<p>It’s not meaningless, but some colleges do place a heavier weight on it than others. It’s up to the individual colleges.</p>

<p>SAT Writing not meaningless. Many of my schools place most emphasis on the combined critical reading and math section, but the writing score can make the difference between a 1900 and a 2100 or even a 2100 and 2300.</p>
<p>our class valedictorian got a 2390.
the other 10 points were lost because he got an 8 on the essay
this also goes for the other top students in my class.</p>
