Please tell us how you have spent the last two summers

Why oh why did Princeton give us 2500 characters for this question? Is it supposed to be a full-on essay detailing what we spent our summers doing? I only wrote about 4 sentences :/ what'd you guys do?

Short and simple list =)
If someone asked what you did last summer, you wouldn't recite an essay now would you.
That's just how I took the question.

Another take on it - why not write a two paragraph response, one for each summer? I don't see how this could hurt your application, but only enhance it.

freesia- so you just listed? i kinda did a few sentences, basically a list but i made it grammatically correct.

bob- yeah i was thinking about that too. is that what you did?

thanks!

wondering the same thing. if the activities are already listed in CommonApp, i think it's okay to leave this blank

^ Leave it blank? Rofl

well, if you already detailed, no need to be superfluous boars.

oh. to elaborate on my take...
i feel like writing in complete sentences for pton summers is like writing an additional essay for 'additional info' of commonapp
it's not responding to the nature of the question
besides, what could you write besides 'i did...research, volunteering, camp, work, travel, etc. and it helped me realize/learn blahblahblah...' in which case if your summer was that meaningful to you, you might as well devote an essay to it.

but to each his own...do whatever makes you feel at ease.

btw, the last time i read the question, it was phrased in a way that we didn't have to answer it...yet there's still a yellow dot so i was peeved...b/c i already talked about my summers in commonapp's add. info
=)

I sorta took it as a chance to explain in depth a summer activity. Mine were already mentioned in the commonapp, but i couldn't elaborate. I mean I thought it was just a way for Princeton to learn more about you, and how you spend your summers. More information will definitely not hurt you, and the less you give, the less they know. So why not write with the 2000 characters? or so they give you.

im 100% certain leaving it blank is not the way to go.. fail

none of my other essays were about my summers, so i discussed my summer activities (volunteering, working, interning) and the stuff i just do normally like taking some days off to sleep in, going to the movies and hanging out with friends, etc.
