Hello. Can you tell me what school you feel I should be looking at/ could get admited into? What are my reaches, safties, matches forgetting for a moment about tuition? I would prefer a medium to large school in an urban setting.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

GPA: 3.9/4

ACT: 32 (will be retaking in hopes of a higher score)

SAT II:
-Spanish with Listening: 800

APs:
Sophomore yr
-AP Spanish: 5
-AP Human Geo: 4
Junior Year
-AP Language: 3
-AP Bio: 3
-AP Chem: 1
-AP US History: 3
(This is my main concern. Last May I was going through some difficult and painful personal problems. I had As in all the classes but I bombed all my AP tests. Does this kill my chances of getting into a good school? I feel it does but would appreciate any second oppinions or recomendations)

Senior Year
-AP Lit
-AP French
-AP Economics
-AP Government
-College Anatomy & Physiology Lecture (taking it at a local community college)
-College Anatomy & Physiology Lab (taking it at a local community college)
-College Psychology (same as above; not set in stone, there is a waitlist...)

ECs
-I have sort of self-employed myself. I sell 100% handmade (by me) gold and silver jewlery. I do this for the extram income.
-I created a jewlery line called "Alzheimer's Butterfly", for which all of the profits go to the American Foundation for Alzheimer's.
-I am on the American Foundation for Alzheimer's Teen Advisory Board.
-I was on Nordstrom's BP Board this past year. There I helped find ways to market Nordstrom's BP Brand and learned about the buisness.
-I am a member of National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, French National Honor Society.
-Vice President of Science National Honor Society.
-Speak 3 languages and I am self learning my 4th (Portuguese)
-I ran a "comfort item" drive this past year. All of the donations are given to a women's and kid's shelter.
-Have won award on many French and Spanish competitions (too many and they were all different so I won't list them)
-This summer I am selling a special line of jewlery for which each pearl (on a bracelet, necklace, etc...) represents 3 meals for a child.

Profile
I am a Hispanic female from a private school in south Florida.

You really think so? I really like Emory but I didn’t think I actually had a shot. What category do you think the above would fall into for me (reach, mach, safety)?

For admittance, the grade you received in AP class is most important. Usually you submit you AP test scores after you are admitted. Your ACT is strong and your EC’s are interesting. I think you’ll have some good choices but I encourage you to factor finances in from the beginning or you’ll set yourself up to be disappointed.

What is your intended major? you can definitely look at many schools within the top 50. Don’t worry about your AP scores. You don’t have to report them in your application. You may want to check the schools if there is SAT2 requirement though. Many schools require subject test even with ACT. Some schools would not count native language as a foreign language, so your SAT2 Spanish may not benefit you too much. Since you have AP French next year, your foreign language requirement should by fine for any school though.

Not as highly ranked but with number 1 honors program is Univ. of South Carolina in large city though not as big as Atlanta, LA, etc. Your ACT would get you decent merit aid and maybe OOS tuition waiver. Generous with credit - you would get class credit for 3s. Really depends on major as to how much of a fit but might be a good financial option. Good additional money if you are NMF.

You look great for all of them! Stay away from NYU, they have horrible financial aid, it’s ridiculous. Also being hispanic will help. You look great for Emory, Duke might be worth looking at (i think you have a shot)…hmmm… maybe go for some ivies! It’s really not unrealistic to think that you could get into those types of schools. Your stats are great.
