How many AP courses are considered
MOST rigorous?
my HS offers like 21 AP courses

Well you obviously can't take all of those in one year. Next year I am taking 4 AP COURSES and I think that is considered "most rigorous". I'm basically taking all the APs that would fit into my schedule. I already took AP English so I can't take that again, and I have to take a theology course.

AP Spanish
AP Calc
AP Bio
AP Physics

THE MOST? Well the max you can do in your high school would be the most. How many of those 21 can you actually do? If you are focusing on computer science I highly doubt you could do both Computer Science AP and Art AP. Also if you are taking Spanish for your language I doubt you could do French AP as well.

So as many as you can fit would be the most rigorous. I am doing about 12-14 by the time I am done with High School. However many here do more. I suggest just doing good amount, 6+ APs should be fine for any school, this is assuming you take at least some honors as well if you plan to apply for top schools.

What are your school desires?

I know someone who took 9 in one year and a lot of others who have taken 8 or 7.

Some of them got all 4's and 5's on their AP exams, while a few were stressed out and didn't do well on any of them.

I don't recommend taking that many, though, unless you're absolutely sure you can handle all the work and stress.
