pleasee chance a premed hopeful?

i'm interested in premed, but i'm not sure is this is the right school for that.
so just to start off, i think my hook will be my future. i plan on joining peace corps after undergrad, and then after my residency, i will join doctors without borders.
maybe become a ob/gyn because they are desperately needed in doctors w/o borders (medecins sans frontiers)

if this has any relevancy, i'm asian (chinese)
but from i've heard, being asian is a disadvantage under affirmative action.

my wgpa is 4.3 but unweighted is 3.6
not too good in my opinion.

sat II's
chemistry 770
i'll take bio this oct/nov and i think i'll get at least 750 on that

studied five years of french at my school and im fluent in chinese, if that's a lang plus?

thanks thanks.
how important is teacher reccomendations?

my gpa will be the death of me.

in state or oos?

BTW… WM has an excellent med school acceptance rate, and Dr. Sher is a fantastic pre-med advisor

Your future is never going to be a “hook” because it so often changes.

Personally, I think emphasizing that you want to go into medicine is not the best strategy when your SAT math and ACT science scores are so low. WM does not look at SAT IIs.

In-state or OOS? This is everything here.

You can get in In-state with those scores + good essays and recs.

OOS is a whole other story.

I agree with inchoative, what you think your future will be isn’t a hook, but an aspiration, no matter how worthy it is. I doubt many colleges would be impressed if I wrote about my future Nobel Prize. ;)

Absolutely write about this in your essay, since it’s something seem passionate about. But it’s not a “hook.”

I believe W&M will evaluate SAT-II’s for admission if you submit them; they’re optional, and aren’t a primary factor in admissions. But with good scores, you should submit them, it can only help.

Oh, and where you wrote “but i heard essays aren’t that important”, just want to make clear, while you’re right, the school doesn’t place a lot of emphasis on the SAT Writing test, your application essays are very important.

As an OOS female, you’ve got a uphill battle, there’s a lot of competition for very few slots. But if you can get your test scores up (that ACT score of 33 would put you in-range), you’ve got a shot.

W&M, as has been noted, has a very high med school admit rate; twice the national average, it’s claimed, or something like 75-85%.

thank you guys so much.
it’s amazing how helpful people are on here.
i’m out of state, so i guess wm may be a long shot for me.

I read somewhere that William and Mary has like an 82% medical school send off rate, which is amazing compared to UVa and its 65%
