Plebe Chemistry

For the class of 2010 it was

Chemistry, The Molecular Science. by Moore, Stanitski and Jur
ISBN:0-534-42201-2

Personally I don't see where this will get you any farther ahead as there is nothing that states that the Validation Exam will be taken from material in THIS book. They have been giving Chem Validation Tests for a LONG time...Books come and go...

Profmom2,

That book is no longer being used. It's some other variation by the same author if I'm right.

It's funny. The night before my chemistry final 2nd semester plebe year, me and about 10 of my company mates went out to Hospital Point and did various things to our chemistry books. Some tossed the book into the Severn, while others like me burned mine along with my pro book.

It is still Chemistry, The molecular science by Moore, Stanitski, and Jur. It's sitting right in front of me.

I've read several comments about material on the exams that even AP chem students hadn't seen. Obviously you can't (shouldn't) give specific problems here, but was the general area of the new material? Electrochemistry, for example? Or was it that the problems used "real life" examples that forced you to derive equations, rather than just balance them, or what? It seems that a discussion of general chemistry topics that should be reviewed might be more help to P2Bs than the text used at USNA.

Good idea - but not sure many of the Mids can remember even the general topics given everything else they were dealing with at the time - I know my youngster couldn't - heck 6 weeks later at PPW when asked about validation tests typical answer - they were hard!

Hopefully some Plebes can begin the discussion.

All I can say is that my plebe and others we've had the chance to meet call Chem the "Plebe Killer."

So I'm not sure if it'd be better to validate or not.....you might be lost in the next higher class.
