Plebe Personlities

To my fellow future (or hope to be) plebeians (bad pun :)?) out there,

We've usd thi forum to talk about strategy and test scores and the future, i'd really like to get the kind of person I might be serving with if I make that final committment and sign up (This is not going to affect my decison, I just am curious :) ) Parents, feel free to describe your boys and girls in the USNA (So I'll know who to avoid when my room isn't clean :) ).

I guess I'll go first.

I'm an average kind of guy. I love being active: ultimate frisbee and amateur slo-pitch softball we have here against the teachers and juniors once in a while. I don't really have any favorite music artist or genre (dispatch and greeday are current favs), I guess anything on the radio is good. Not much to do around here in Edgemont, so I like to get really into community stuff like senior fundraisers and charity events. Really into politics, Comedy Central, and I just try to go through the days with just a light-hearted disposition, although i can be serious when the situation deems it appropriate. Hardcore Yankee fan, avid loather of all things Red (i.e. Sox). I've got an older brother, my parents are both from Europe, and I have a dog (anklebiter) named Daisy (I wanted to name her killer..but noooo..)

I guess that's me in a nutshell. Any other takers?

There are as mnay different types of personalities in USNA as there are in the entire world. The common thread, is a strong desire to serve our country. Some are gung-ho rules (flamers), while others "fly under the radar" and try to break as many as they can without getting caught. And every variation in-between.

You will adjust to your company and roommate just as you would at a civilian college.

Hey YanksatNY! I'll drop you a PM when I get a chance. I'm off to class right now.

My son is an avid soccer player( captain, all-state etc. etc.), likes to play "Halo" game (whatever that is), doesn't have to study to make straight A's (sickening), and watches Comedy Central when he sits still long enough.

Hey everyone. I'm from New York as well (Long Island to be more specific). I've wanted to go to the Naval Academy since I was five, literally. No one in my family has ever been in the military. I am an avid swimmer (life guard, swim team, etc.). I'm on varsity tennis and marksmanship (.22 rifles). I speak Italian fluently and my favorite subjects are math and science (obviously), but I also like history (history channel addict). I am a pretty relaxed person, but I can get things done when it's crunch time. I'm very excited about June 29th, a little nervous too. I have two friends that graduated from the academy. One is serving in San Diego on the USS Ronald Regan. The other was in the Marines, but unfortunately was killed in action this September. I cannot wait to get started and meet everyone. Future Surface Warfare Officer hopefully! GO NAVY! BEAT ARMY!

GoNavy87,
I'm a little curious...what does the 87 stand for in your name?

I'm guessing the year he was born, since I'm '86

Well... I guess I should get in on this too. Name's Nicholas... go by Nick mostly but when I'm near close friends I'm called Tiny... I'm a Junior Mechanical Engineering major at Texas Tech, I work at a place called Bahama Bucks (its flavored shaved ice) oh its sooo good... I love sports, I plan on playing Football and running Track at USNA. I ran track here at Texas Tech before I had to quit due to schedule conflicts, when I'm not at school or work, you can find me at the gym... I go run for fun... I have an older brother (with DS) and a younger sister. I have my pilot's license and love to fly, hopefully in 5 years I'll be flying around in a jet somewhere (I've wanted to be a Naval Aviator ever since I saw the F14... then when I saw the movie Top Gun... that just helped the decision even more) I was reading GoNavy87's post and I wish I could speak Italian... my dad is Italian but he was adopted, so never really exposed to it... I've sorta got Spanish down pretty good :) Alrighty well I guess I'll end it there if you want/need for any reason to know more... just ask away...

Yes, by the way, the "87" in my name refers to the year I was born. I'm still only 17 (turn 18 in November).

Hi, from the shoreline in Connecticut in a small traditional New England podunk. I've wanted to got to the academy since 7th grade. At first I wanted to be on subs, but I am leaning more towards the Marines now. Unlike a lot of people here I'm not the engineering type, I plan on majoring in poly sci with a minor in a language. I run all year around for cross country and track, about 12 miles a day during the summer. I want to run for Navy, but I am also considering triathlon and marathon clubs. What has attracted me the most to the academy is the esprit de corps, I can't wait to meet all of my future shipmates, and I look forward to overcoming challenges with you!
