What is the typical day of Plebe Summer like? Aside from PEP in the morning, is there any other physical activity during the day? Also, do the plebes swim during Plebe Summer or do they simply take the validation test then?

you can't validate anything over plebe summer...plebes will typically swim 7-8 times over the course of the summer. if you want to validate plebe swimming during the ac year you will have a chance to do so during the first swimming class

I'll defer to those a little closer to the action on what a typical plebe summer day is like but basically your entire day is scheduled with a variety of activities including: swimming, marching, sailing, pistol shooting, honor lectures, validation tests, damage control training, meals, uniform fittings, chow calls, uniform races, room cleaning, academic lectures (on majors, etc.), parades, and probably lots more things that I've forgotten or have changed over the years.

Although most of the physical activity is at PEP, you march almost everywhere, you chop (run) in Bancroft hall, and you climb up and down the ladders (stairs) over & over again. You are almost constantly active even when not doing PT per se.

As usual, USNA1985 is correct. Still wonder how they're going to fit everything in with a shortened PS. Mids we've talked with over the past few months said their days were packed from morning until lights out for the 6+ weeks. Some things will have to change with a week less.

Well we can look forward to being busy with whatever they decide! It seems like there's plenty to be learned and done.

Yeah... regarding the shortened summer, when they said they found a way to make it more "efficient", I'm not so sure that's a good thing for future plebes.

^^^
yeah, who needs to sleep? ;-)

I asked this to the Lt Cdr in charge of plebes (apparently) at my CVW. I said something along the lines of "do the 5 days lost from plebe summer get added onto the end?" He replied "trust me, you won't be missing anything," and laughed.

^^ hahahaha

That's the one thing my high school has taught me that will help me at USNA lol!

In our graduation video, one of the questions was something about the best lesson my school (a pretty competitive academic school) has taught you... there were a lot of "sleep is a choice" and "you can not sleep and still live" answers. :p

I understand the sarcasm of this "sleep" topic. Though, sleep is taken REAL seriously during plebe summer. You will have more sleep during plebe summer than any other time at USNA.

Sorry, I should have clarified that I was just making general conversation.

Isn't there some rule about the Cadre not being able to wake Plebes to early? like before 5:30 or something?

From the time you go to sleep (about 9:45ish) until when you will be woken up (5:45-6ish) you will left alone by the detailers, unless you have night 'rover watch' (which is your responsibility to get up for).

What exactly is the night rover watch?

seriously, taps is 9:45-ish???

hersheybear--youre gonna be exhausted way before then every night...

I think I slept more soundly plebe summer than at any time in my life. There's something about total mental and physical exhausion . . .

And, if you really, really can't fall asleep, you can always study rates w/a flashlight (at least folks did in my day; that's probably gone the way of watches during plebe summer!).

probably asked already but why was PS cut short by 5 days?

don't get me wrong. i'm glad taps is that early.
