One of my great friends is currently a plebe at USNA. I have two questions really...
1) When does plebe summer end?
2) I'll be driving up to New York in late August, and was wondering if stopping by the Academy would be allowed. Would I need an appointment or something and/or would plebe summer even be over? ( I wanted to surpise her, but don't thnk thats possible).

You might also want to give your friend the heads-up. It would be unfortunate if your visit coincided with the weekend that she is on duty (they are on duty every third weekend, I believe) or on watch. If she knew in advance, she might be able to switch with someone if there was a conflict.

HTownTXBoi ....Plebe Parent weekend is Aug. 11-13. Plebes have liberty from friday afternoon until sat. evening and most will have liberty from saturday afternoon until 6pm sunday. Plebes can be within a limited range of the USNA area ( 1 1/2 hours one way, I think was the last word we parent's have...but it has changed a few times) and they must be in uniform the whole time. ( No, there are no USNA pajamas :-) )

One thing you might consider is talking with the Plebe's family and working out a way to connect when they do.

Our Plebe is expecting her mom and dad...but she doesn't know that her closest sibling, a brother, is coming across the country to surprise her as well. We have it worked out that after friday's lunch and before we go up to see her room in Bancroft Hall, her brother will show up. As excited as I am about seeing our daughter - I think I am most excited about seeing that look on her face when she sees her brother!

So try working with her family on this one.

I'm sure your friend would love to see you. It will have been a long summer without contact.

What an exciting weekend it is . . .and [at least for the boys] can they eat!
We brought up local favorite donuts, local favorite hot-dogs and some of grandma's tacos [kind of a weird combo, but we knew it would be a hit], they were mostly gone on Friday afternoon. By Saturday afternoon, nothing was left but aluminum foil.

With their schedules, it's kind of a tough deal to try and surprise them. Just be prepared if he cannot make it. It would be well worth at least a visit, even if they can't get off the yard.

I believe that HTownTexBoi wanted to visit after PPW, (recall he/she said "end of August") not during it. So, it is very likely (1 entire weekend out of three consecutive ones) that the plebe will be on duty. I do not know if they can even leave Bancroft when they are on duty, except for meals. (I would ask my mid, but he is on his summer crusie, and I don't mean on the Carnival Lines). Current mids can clarify this.

While a surprise would be exciting, given the high demands of a mid's life, expecially a plebe's, a head's up and a plan would prevent potential disappointment.

my daughter complained to me on sunday
"Mom we don't know ANYTHING. Everyone else knows what is going on with our lives, but we don't." She knew nothing of PPW or even what the next day's activity would be, unless the cadre told her. They don't even have watches.I seriously doubt any cadre are going to walk up to her and tell her something nice - and no Plebes are on this site - as they are just as out of internet contact as the rest of them - so I don't expect she'll find out

By the way, you had asked me a while back if I knew what companies the two young ladies I mentioned were in. Haven't been able to find out yet, but NavyHornet will call the local ones parents next week when she gets home, just to see if they've heard from her and how she's doing. NavyHornet is over in Colorado Springs, as staff for a Civil Air Patrol Leadership school. When she gets home next Monday she's not going anywhere again until school starts.

Loved the article you shared with me on your daughter. She sounds great and of course we know she made it in. Were putting together an article on what ours did this summer for the CAP Idaho Wing newsletter. Another article on her was featured in the Rocky Mountain Region newsletter, so maybe this one will get there also.

Another bit of good news is she'll be promoted to Cadet Commander on August 1st, so that will go right on the resume.

Alright, so let me get this straight: during Plebe Summer, you do get the weekend "off" but only after your done doing your duty that day. Is this a correct statement? Will the cadre be around to mess with you or do they go off and do their own thing too and leave you alone?
