Plebe Summer Question

Just curious how much firearms training/shooting do we actually do over Plebe Summer? Im guessing it involves the M16 rifle and and M9 handgun?

Plebes qualify on the M16A2 and M9. I'm told there's some class room training and some range practice then you qualify. In my opinion its not much training at all. My escort from CVW said that unless you are on a shooting team / club, are selected for Weapons Detail during 2/C, or are deployed with the Marines during one of your cruises, this will be the only time you do any firearms training while at the Academy.

Yup, plebe summer is pretty much it as far as weapons training goes.

I know we are issued boots with our camis, but are we allowed to get the same boots as the ones we are issued before plebe summer to run in/break in and bring them into plebe summer with us?

They usually don't get boots beforehand. My son said the ones they were issued on I-Day were extremely comfortable to run in and needed no breaking in. He has/had feet that blistered easily, too, but didn't with those boots.

The firearm info. is correct. My son qualified as expert on both, but he had firearm training before that.

The majority of us only shoot plebe summer so that sucks, bnut you can re-qual if you do Weapons Detail. The boots are fine, it just sucks to run in boots and you very rarely do it so don't worry about that.

what's weapons detail?

the cadre that teach the plebe how to shoot over the summer (i think).

That's correct.
